The cheap rum was preceded by witchcraft ginger beer. No, not the kids drink, this is 4.2% proper ginger beer.

Well gingery, almost a bit sweet; definitely needs chilling. Might have to buy some more, it's cheap in Lidl atm.

Sweet gingery ginger beer is just the kind of thing I like. I'm not a fan of Crabbies- too beer-y. I used to drink Stones Ginger Joe but it's been removed from the shelves (seemingly mostly by me, and Mr Smith at my request) at our local Tescos.

I confused things by typing witchcraft when I should have typed wychwood.

I didn't like it. Too beery. Mr Smith had it instead. I also get some Hatherwood Ginger Grizzly which was much more like the thing. He reckons I'm going to be suffering tomorrow though, as it was a bit chemically astringent and cloudy. Whatevs, as the kids say.

It is definitely beer flavoured with huge amounts of ginger, rather than ginger beer.

I got a miniature of Hotel Chocolat Cocoa gin. It's been sitting untouched since October waiting for me to find the balls.
Tonight I opened it. Smelled it - yuk! Tasted it -yuk!
Pingu gallantly agreed to drink it, so I got to taste it with tonic in it. Slightly less disgusting than neat, but still so wrong.

That's it. I don't know what's in it till I drink it all. I think you can build your own, but this a magical mystery tour, so far I've had a Blackwater number 5, West Winds, Helsinki Dry, Makar Glasgow, and Tarquin's Hedgerow Edition. I've included Taylor Swift for Larrers.

That's, erm, just one of the cupboards. There is some Hotel Chocolate Gin there, I can't remember the taste. I prefer gin-y gins. The worst one is some kind of Heston Blumenthal Earl Grey Gin. A present from someone, but it's too foul to contemplate. Banished to the bad spirit cupboard (yes, I have one of those, where the Tia Maria and Cherry Brandy live). Once a year I decide to make cocktails. The aim is to get someone drunk enough that they finish the Unicum.

I thought 'Gin? - Yes. Earl Grey? - Yes. A combo of the two? - That's just wrong inna  kind of way.'

I like the Makar, it's not subtle at all, but I quite got a taste for it in a 'once you've had Punk IPA everything else isn't hoppy enough' sort of way, but with juniper,  obviously.
