It's that time of year again ... last Christmas and 'The Legendary Epiphany Extravaganza' are now history, some of us have staked their claim to a PBP place already, with others to follow, and so we come to Easter Arrows.
Do we have a consensus regarding teams, routes, start times, or is it all up in the air again? I'd like to captain a fixed team again if enough are interested. There's a ColVelo team brewing too I hear ...
So, a Wednesday night, or Friday/Saturday pubinar so other hopefuls [maybe non-ACME, all welcome!] can travel to attend? Any thoughts?
-
I'm happy to captain a team again ... I've got an easy route planned with sit-down stops for the most part.
Fridays would be difficult to make for me, but I could make the following dates for a pubinar:
Wed: 6th or 13th Feb
Sat: 2nd or 9th Feb

Hmm I can't do 2nd and 2nd & 9th complicated by six nations rugby, so would need a pub with no TV
Weds: 6th is The Viper, 13th is The Endevour neither of which are pubinar friendly ('dev has darts on iirc and viper not very public transport friendly?)
20th probably out as it's Wye Wednesday 200km from Gravesend so might have a few local arrowists on that plus it's local half term.
Sat: 16th ??
-
Sat 16th Feb is good for me. Or we could change one of those Weds to a different location.
-
Saturday 16th Feb is ok by me. 2nd is Huggy's Knights Templar 100km.
So: train friendly [Chelmo/Witham pub] or the Spiritual Home?
-
I'll cycle so venue isn't an issue for me ... I guess the major consideration will be somewhere quiet on a Saturday night.
-
16th Feb is currently good for me. Would like to commit to a fixed team, but will need to square it away with the Boss, Easter can be busy with traction engines etc. Hopefully will be all healed up by then...
-
I’m interested in joining a team and 16th works for me.
-
turns out 16th feb will be very good for me too
-
We'll settle on Saturday 16th February then ok. Compasses, LG - unless any good reason to go elsewhere. 7pm ok?

7pm is good for me. I'll probably finish a ride there and eat before 7pm.
-
Keen to join an arrow team this year, pending permission (I need to actually broach the subject first to be fair). Probably struggling to make the pubinar, but I will keep an eye on this thread and do my best

Sounds like a plan, food from 18:00 ?

Not really sure I can have an opinion about which pub! :-[

I am leading a team of four out of Hertfordshire. We are going for a Thursday night start. So possibly cross paths with some of your teams overnight. I have an outline route to avoid level crossings this time. No crashing this year.

Tour of the 24-hour McDonalds of the East of England, maybe ...

Indeed followed by a decent breakfast as daylight arrives.

 Josser You have a PM ...

Got it, thanks

Still haven't done an arrow.... usually school holidays rule it out... But a 10k would require it... thinks...

Does that mean you're also thinking about a 1000km BRM this year, in which case I can recommend a June ride that takes in Norway, Sweden and Denmark?
-
Green Room booked for 16th Feb
-
 ColVelo seem to have a team of 5 at the ready.
Just a note for you all before anyone gets too far into planning. I've checked in with Martin, this years organiser and no Thursday night start available this year. Sticking to the published rules of 'Teams may start from Friday 06:00 to Saturday 10:00hrs.'
-
Indeed, I have received the same message back from Martin.
-
Dissapointing.... :'(
-
Hmmmm, my planned route assumed a Thursday start. Could always start Friday evening, but what's the fun in arriving in York when everybody has gone home.
A group DIY would work with a Thursday start, and gives 28 hours rather than 24 hours to complete.
... and doesn't require a minimum number to finish, and would allow a 400km ride rather than an over distance ride.

Yes this was my thought.. far more positives than not in that approach... not having the Thursday night start writes off the weekend for me visiting family and given other time restrictions imposed on the team car driver - at the moment, I won't be doing a Friday morning start.

A 'by-the-book' interpretation of the rules, perfectly correct of course, but every organiser does things their own way [within the rules, literally, spirit of, sort of etc]. I have had 'issues' with riders saying, "well such and such an organiser let me do that" so a reasonable degree of consistency is desirable ...
A DIY sounds a good idea for those who prefer the Thursday evening start - plenty of solo/small group rides to York have happened like that - Teethgrinder has, for instance. Maybe I'll be doing 3 or 4 x 100kms at Easter to York in my dotage?
-
Planning a ride, maybe a permanent or DIY on 16th, ending up at the Compasses - now Sunday is free too, so Brazier's Run is a possibility. First back-to-back weekend for a long while ...
-
I won't be able to make it to the Pubinar as we are off to Wales to sort the house out and get it on the market, pity you could all have bought me (and the Hustler) birthday beers for the sunday :-)
Current plan for team ColVelo is an 8am Friday start but not quite sure on Route yet....likely fens and wolds on well tested roads including the Humber Bridge.
-
I'll bring my file of old routes, plus a big old analogue map or two. I think Barts East Anglia and North England should do it, maybe Midlands for any routes west of Northampton.
Mass start from Witham at 09:00? Maybe crossing paths/meeting at controls more than last year, though the weather aided the fragmentation ...
-
Just a reminder ... and can we recruit any more to our teams [whether ACME or not - hope you can make the pubinar]?
-
Have a good session. Our team is going to be further west this year but some of your teams might venture our way.
-
It's quite pleasant outside today, and looks set to continue tomorrow. For all those doing a DIY ride beforehand, enjoy your rides. I'm heading across to the seaside, with lunch in Walton on the Naze, and a pitstop at the Black Buoy in Wivenhoe on the way back to ensure I rock up at the Compasses at 6pm, in time for food before the serious business commences at 7pm.
-
I plan to be there around six!

The Black Buoy is an EXCELLENT choice!
