Arnie makes Dolph Lundgren and Steven Seagull look wooden.

Careful now!  Being rude about Mr Seagal will make ian go off on one and we wouldn't want that now, would we?

Hell Yes!  ;)

Speaking as rather a fan of Arnie (lets ignore Last Action Hero, Jingle all the Way and one or two others) - for me it's still true to say -  isn't 'Arnie making Seagal and Lundgren' look wooden a bit comparing the relative woodiness of Oak, Pine and Walnut? ;)
It's a reverse Elvis thing.

That may be, but it's not like we watch an Arnie movie expecting to see a performance on a par with Daniel Day-Lewis or Gary Oldman - well, I certainly don't...

And Arnie, Dolph and the newer generation of action movie stars are quite likely self-aware enough to know that their acting chops aren't on the same level as yer typical film and TV award winner.

Its a good film, very good. But dont go expecting another kaleidoscopic epic like T1.

Its a film about middle-age. Some of the characters  have aged well, some not so well. Problem is, I'm just 2 years older than Renton so it felt like the film was about me, not least because the original film music was the soundtrack of my mid 20s, and the score on this film has downtempo remixes of some of the Underworld tunes that featured. Its quite haunting. :-[. Certainly had the intended impact on me. The characters are aware of their mortality, and unlike T1 it doesnt capture the 'mood of the moment', because of course it isnt their moment. They had that 20 years ago. The nightclub scene reinforces this neatly.

Its definitely worth seeing.

It's a film that fits my age too (though with less heroin and more nightnurse). I'll probably see it but I have some misgivings since T1 had probably one of the best movie endings ever and part of me kind of thinks it should stay like that and lager, lager, lager into the forever.

Nah. Go and see it.

I saw this over the weekend. Truly excellent. If you thought Begbie was a seething mass of poorly controlled violence liable to explode at any moment twenty years ago...

I like the depth they've added to the main characters, one in particular. And the protestant sing-along scene and the ATM is a comic masterpiece.

I'll be honest, Seagal has let himself go. You can't not rate Under Siege I and II, they're classics and if the Oscars weren't so phoney, they would have won them all. Even some Oscars don't actually exist. Lately, well, I can bear to see a man who has scaled such heights wallow in the valleys where the only thing he's fighting is his gut and it's a fight he's losing.

And remember, I sat back a while ago and watched all the Nicolas Cage movies which qualifies me both as an expert on awful movies and self-inflicted trauma. Left Behind should be entombed in a lead and concrete sarcophagus and dumped in the Mariana Trench. After we've sent a submarine down there to dig a deeper basement. I didn't, to be honest, think they could make a movie worse than Prometheus, but then I learned that Nic Cage has starred in all of them. So Prometheus would have worse if Nic has been in it. There's an entire new calibration required. Ridley, I think he's still available for the sequel, you hear. You can almost hear the splash that lavatorial depth charge would make as it's released.

Arnie is a good action staple. You'd almost liked to be punched by him. Even if he was a T100. They should have stopped the Terminator franchise at II though (and the same for Alien). It's a rule that if the sequel is on a par or better than the original: STOP!

Dolph was forgettable. Now JCvD, he's in a league of his own. He sent me an email once, which I treasure even more than the sincere apology letter I received from the deputy PM of Canada.

But there's really only one action movie moment that is beyond all others. That's the bit in Hellbound where Chuck Norris beats 666 shades of crap out of a demon. If you've not seen this movie, see it. Honest, put aside all the Chuck 'Right Wing Loon' Norris, and witness a man fight a demon. With his fists. You can't do that in real life. I mean, me and you, we wouldn't. No way. But Chuck, he's no you and me. Oh and Chuck's character name: Frank Shatter. What a fucking awesome name.

And unlike the others, has starred in an actually-quite-watchable film in which he parodies himself mercilessly.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Do seek it out if you haven't watched it.

As far as action heroes are concerned you simply can't beat Die Hard.

(If you haven't seen any of the honest movie trailers, they're well worth a look - the Star Wars franchise ones are a delight in particular, especially the ones for episodes 1-3)

Of course, he couldn't maintain the standard sadly.

John-Claude van Johnson  – it's an Amazon pilot but I think they picked it up for a full series later this year. Basically the JCvD plays a fading action movie star who decides to do it for real. I hope they pick it up because it was hilarious.

And no, you can't beat Bruce. Though he sullied himself with the execrable DH5.

I was actually referring to JCVD, but the TV series sounds like it might be similar.

It is a spoof piss-take of Jean-Claude van Dam starring Jean-Claude van Dam taking the mickey out of himself getting old and past it.

I've seen the trailer and it does look funny.

Whereas JCVD is a film of him playing himself getting old and past it (and caught up in a hostage situation / bank heist which goes wrong), and is also quite funny.

Jean-Claude van Damme plays John-Claude van Damme, an ageing and fading action movie star. He decides to make it real under the alias Jean-Claude van Johnson.

Snubbed by the Oskars too, which has sparked much faux outrage amongst those who should care about actual important stuff.  I think Amy Adams can console herself with her fat bank account.

The Rezort. Zombies vs. Jurassic Park.

Don't bother, it's shitter than you think.

I'm waiting for Sharknado 5.

for me

Dead Pool - meh, violence, lowest common denomination humour, attempted anti-hero-hero.  Didn't work

The Eichmann Show - very compelling, hard not to draw parallels with current events or their potential, no real concept of the events endured and sacrifices of that interwar/post war generation but it was a very good file even if uncomfortable at times.

The worst.

Deadpool had its moments, but mostly through satirising its own genre (eg. his use of traditional female superhero poses).

Less disappointing than Suicide Squad, thobut.
