Disagree.  I may not like the Beatles (actually I do to be fair) but if they stand astride the world as absolute legends of popular beat combo music and have a multitude of bands who followed who cite them as major inspirations, pioneer many things that now seem normal in music etc etc then I think then there gets to be a stage where you should really acknowledge that despite your own personal tastes that they must have had something that I just don't necessarily get or like.

I dislike whole genres of music mostly but that just makes those who produce that stuff like and produce different stuff to my tastes.

I can't say the Rolling Stones have ever done *very* much for me but they clearly must have *something* that I can't fathom.

Remarkable.

May not go down too well in Trumpland.

Sorry, I edited my post while you were agreeing with me...

But I stand by my original "Troll" comment for anyone who posts that Paul McCartney was better post Beatles*

* I'm not anti-McCartney either.  I've posted links to his amazing and progressive Bass-playing genius on this very forum.

The Beatles were as clear and example of a band being better than just the sum of their parts as you will ever find.

Anyway, Films.

David brent - A Life on the Road

Well, it's The Office - The Movie isn't it?  I was a HUGE fan of The Office.  It started a genre and was spectacularly well-observed.
This isn't.
It's too tragic, relentlessly so.  There are attempts to replicate Gareth and Dawn characters but this is 95% Brent and 99% tragedy, it's too much.
Some funny moments but a 5/10 spin-off from a 10/10 series.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Fabulous.

Patriot's Day

Had something of a documentary feel to it, with some excellent acting.

The mistake wasn't this film, the mistake was to be "a HUGE fan of The Office".
The Office was a turd. A cringeworthy vehicle for a third rate comedian, held together by Gareth, Dawn, the other one and the large bloke. It didn't start a genre, it merely polished its own dolphin.

The film is not surprisingly a much bigger turd. I've seen bits of it. I'm guessing these are the pieces of sweetcorn.

PS.

so there all you post Beatles haters.

Could never be much bothered with the Beatles. The only stuff of theirs I ever much liked was on Sgt. Pepper, what they did before & after was sort-of OK as wallpaper at parties.  John Lennon I disliked, too much fuss was made of McCartney. Nowadays I wouldn't listen to them.

You can read my post in whatever way amuses you most, but I can recommend the film.  It contains a certain amount of rubber but no more than you'd expect in the early 60s.

The Beatles/ Lennon/ McCartney/ Harrison/ Starr post Beatles and ALL music is a bit like a low grade Marmite argument. Marmite you either love or hate. Music you either love, hate or meh. Some love The Beatles some hate, I can take them or leave them. Post Beatles- who cares really?

If someone hates Lennon music and thinks he is overrated? They are right. In their opinion. Who is to say your opinion is more valid?

Hardly.

Elanor Rigby, that one was alright

For McCartney I mainly thinking Live and Let Die, and Band on the Run.  Mull of Kintyre, fair cop.

The Stones never really did it for me either apart from a few songs.  I'm a Moody Blues fan personally along with early Elton John

Yesterday, Lego Batman with 2 Cubs and a couple of spare chiddlers (one for each of 'em).

This morning, Asterix and the Mansions of the Gods in a different cinema with just the SmallestCub.

This evening, Sing! in yet another cinema with the SmallestCub and an extra.

We are considering Trolls in the morning, if we wake up in time....

Now HERE is a flashback to an earlier life.  Mansions of the gods was my second favourite Asterix book (the Roman Agent being first).  I hope it lived up to the book  :D   LOVED them.

Makes me want to read them again, so what if I'm all grown up now  :D

April and the Extraordinary World

Steampunk and cats, what's not to like?  I didn't have the French language audio, so it suffered from the usual anime problem of dubious translation to make the English dub work.  Not a big fan of the animation style.  Contains lizards and testicles or traces of testicles.

Doctor Strange

It was pretty, and the fight scenes were much less boring than the usual Marvel offerings.  I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to, in a Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality sort of way.  Contains Cumberbatch or traces of Cumberbatch.

Also contains Jean Rochefort, whom I thought dead.  And watching the trailer, I'm sure I recognized one of the Dupondt twins out of Tintin.

Might get that.

Not liking a band is not the same as them being crap.

Calling them crap is a bit ummm .... well ... given their rampant and very much standing the test of time - success, and their influence on others,  I think it's a bit of a stretch to say they're crap even if you do hate them.

Though as soon as I type that I think of Cliff Richard

Weren't we supposed to be talking about fillums?  I have no tolerance for topic drift  :demon: ;)
If you insist….

A Hard Day's Night
was great and was instrumental in creating The Beatles Myth (e.g. the four "characters").
Help! was pretty awful, borderline racist in a Britain in the 60s kind of way
Yellow Submarine looks very dated now but at the time was probably quite innovative
Let It Be is fascinating and disheartening in equal measure. It's interesting to see the band attempting to work together but sad to see them falling apart at the same time. And, of course, the rooftop gig is a lot of fun.

I haven't seen Eight Days a Week yet - hopefully it;ll be up on Netflix soon  :)

I suspect having DHS border agents bungeeing off the wall to discourage those Mexicans with spears is ill advised considering the average waistline of an American. All that dessert will just make holes in the desert.

I briefly entertained myself (oh stop it) the other day by imagining mariachi bands trampolining over the wall, twirling through the air, valiantly strumming.
