Title: 2019 1000km+ rides
Post by: mattc on 25 August, 2018, 07:02:22 pm
I already know about an event from a small wood SW of Paris - are there others to consider?

(Not fussed about start point - I intend to avoid Blackpool, but some seem to flock there ;) )

Fairly sure the Celtic Knot will run in Ireland next year.

"6+6 Isole" on Scilly and Sardinia.

This pdf:
http://mybikeway.it/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/66-Isole-Scheda-.pdf suggests it'll be 19 - 24 May.

Although I've also seen June 2019 suggested, eg: https://www.audaxitalia.it/media/organizzatore/180/4BREVETTI_BROCHURE_ENG_DEF.pdf

1000 du Sud, I presume it will run next year.  It has done in previous PBP years.  Am doing this instead of PBP as have children going through GCSE & A level next year and need to be at home at key periods of PBP qualifying and exam results arrive during PBP which may require re-planning re universities etc.  I entered this a few years back and had to pull out due to injury and subsequent lack of fitness.

The route varies each year.

Blimey - even after using google translate that takes some digesting ...

One drawback has become clear; it's 2 x 600km rides. (with a ferry ride in between!) Fine. But both are scheduled to start in the evening.

I used to take ferries to Sardinia a lot and they were always late... by hours... so the second leg might well start any time  ;D

I heard both rides are possible PBP Qualifiers. If so that means only 40 hours to complete either, or both together 80hrs? Has anyone read the small print?

Yup, definitely 2 separate rides, with 40h for each.

Looks like Andy Corless is putting on a choice of a 1,000km or a 1,200km in early July.

Lytham to Fort William or Inverness.

I recently received a new flyer about 6+6 Isole, the text is only in Italian, if anybody wants a copy of it please PM me (I haven't understood how to attach it to this post, sorry).
It contains major changes in the project.
It says and shows that:
- the first 600 will take place in Sardinia and start at midnight of Wednesday April 24th 2019 (midnight between the 24th and the 25th) from a suburb of Cagliari. It will head North, along the eastern coast of the island and then come back
- the ferry that has to be taken will sail at night, 26th to 27th, from Cagliari to Palermo
- the second 600, in Sicily, will start in Palermo at 8.00/9.00 of Saturday 27th, get close to Mount Etna without climbing to its top (AIUI from the map, but it's not very detailed so I'm not sure) and get back to Palermo within midnight of Sunday 28th

Just don't stop... or ride too slow up the "Rest".
The extra leg up to Inverness through the Great Glen didn't tempt me but the paisley to fort bill bit did.

Love to do it.  Wrong weekend, as usual with Andy's 1000.  Year after, as will no longer need to go to the school event that's always on this weekend  :demon:

Looking at doing the Inverness 1200 in July as I dont think I'll pre-qualify for PBP.  I did a similar route during my LEJOG ride back in 2014 so I'm looking forward to returning there next year.

Anyone else doing this or is a 'small wood SW of Paris' a more encouraging option?

Tempted ... but I may be more tempted by the 1000km (same datetime start):

Simply because I don't really fancy the 2am finish of the 1200. But we'll see ...

Sod it - they already have their own thread! https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=109546.0
