Dear John Perrin,


As a BRM organiser, we have the pleasure of informing you of the route of the 2nd edition of:
The Ronde Aliénor d’Aquitaine 2018


The route is now visible on OpenRunner : 7553962
and
there will be two choices of departure from Le Haillan (Bordeaux):
Sunday 8th July 2018 at 8 p.m. and Monday 9th July 2018 at 5 a.m.


The route will be equally lovely, an immersion in the various landscapes and history of our beloved South-West:
the forests and lakes of the Périgord Vert, the medieval fortified towns, the legendary passes of the Pyrenees (including the Aubisque ),
the verdant Basque Country, the dramatic Atlantic coast, and finally the prestigious Médoc (Bordeaux) wine route.


Again, we have attempted to improve the quality of this organisation by following the suggestions expressed by the participants of the first edition.


We would be very happy if you could pass the message on to your club Peak Audax CTC and the riders who participate in your own BRM.


Registration will be open from January 2018 and from now we will be at your disposal to answer any questions posted on our blog dedicated to the route:

Entry limited to 500, so get in quick come January....Also quite undulating (in a John Hamilton stylee) from the get go to the Pyrenees....Quite fancy it although: 1 Need to be fitter than I have ever been, 2 Must get time off....We shall see how the autumn goes

of course, best way to get to Bordeaux is to ride there, also a pretty easy ride in 3 or 4 days from say Dieppe on the D road network where traffic is usually light

Just cycled through that part of the world the other week. Cycled to Portsmouth, caught the overnight to St Malo and then Bordeaux is about another 550 km or so. Sounds very tempting, but I would have to wash my smelly kit every night as I would be carrying very little.

Looks ideal. I've been searching for something like this: An attractive route around France (to contrast the plainness of PBP) and over a good distance that makes it worth the journey out there.

Wife has a yoga buddy who lives in Hossegor at kilometre 888. Gotta take that as a nudge.
The only problem is that I think the inaugural ACME 1000 will probably be the week beforehand.
No, I can't do both!

This would be a fun ride and the organiser is a good bloke but it would mean 3 x 1000+km brevets in 3 weeks for me and I've not got the legs or the annual leave for that.

Thanks Chris - rwgps makes it 11.6km of climbing, so a lot hillier than PBP.  (openrunner gives very different climbing figs to the sites we tend to use in the UK. anyone seen PBP plotted on rwgps?).

But the "fun" of climbing Aubisque would be a big compensation!

Openrunner's system of calculating climbing from the altitude diffrences between the trace points which are too far apart on routes over 50km (at least it seems that that is how it works) tends to give woefully short climbing figures. An error of this magnitude is totally resonable and expected.

That sounds about right to me. The 1200 of the Massif Centrale a couple of years back had quite a small field; I don't know how many were in the last Eleanor.

I might be back on a bike by this time but would never be so optimistic as to think myself capable of riding it. However if any were coming down to it and travelling through Limoges on their way they would be more than welcome to stop for a beer chez moi (or tea and cake if that is more the fashion); Guidon OTP would be much closer to the event HQ of course.

the course passes within 2km of me on the long run to the first control (166km)....Will try and get the club to put up a stall - could be well supported!!
