These two were interviewed at Washingborough near Lincoln, hence the reference to it being easy, but what does he say exactly when he mentions it being 'dur'.

At 0:47...I think he says:

"what was hard was the last control and coming back. Head wind, and I had 2 hours of hard rain"

"c'est dur, mais bon..."

"if it hadn't been hard, we would have already finished."

"it's a pity, because we were in advance, and  I wanted to try and have some sleep...and now may not even be able to make it"

I was thinking 'driving rain' for 'pluie battante', thanks for that, I just keep nodding and hope to get it translated later under these circumstances.

The gentleman standing is Belgian. He and I crossed paths many times on PBP 2003. In 2007, we started in the same group and only saw each other again at the finish

I'd be grateful for names, I'd like to know if they finished.

Damon,

I am a bit busy right now but will answer it all next week. I  have done a third of the ride with one of the two (Pascal) and he was winging that it was hilly after Coxwold. he finished Friday morning.

"It was very hard, which considering the saddle I am using, was un(e) grande surprise"

You are all assuming that he was talking about the ride and not something altogether different.

Think on.
