I've signed up. First 200 in quite a few months...
But if, when you've finished on the PayPal page, you don't return to the AUK page, I only get the first email and your name is not added to the list of entrants (until I spot the anomoly and add it manually).

Yes Ian H pointed that out to me a couple of weeks ago; we need to check our emails and also Paypal account studiously against the start sheet.

But having said that PayPal entry is still a quantum leap forward from the Stone Age postal system, in light of the latest strike ballot  I'm just wondering when to amend my calendar page to say "if you haven't posted your entry by such and such a date forget it and do it online or email me and EOL"

I rode most of the southern half of this on Saturday (beautiful day) with thanks to Phil for the provisional route details. Aside from a short stint on the A4074 it is mostly very pleasant back roads through some pretty villages. The climb up to Stoke Row will be h.a.r.d. on the day, coming right near the end, but once you are up it is a very pleasant wind down through woods to near the finish.

I hope to ride the northern half in a couple of weeks but am looking forward to doing the whole thing on the day. Saw several Red Kites and a buzzard.

Is it the same route as last year?  If so, I'll have to try not to get lost in the village with the fireworks display and then follow somebody who wasn't on the ride for a couple of miles.  I'm also aiming to ride >100km in total in the 6 weeks leading up to it so it doesn't become the hardest ride of the year again.  As mentioned above, at least you get to watch firework displays if you're slow on this one.

Can even get a direct train from Putney (the 5.21am gets in to Reading at 6.41am, the only direct train that runs any day).

To Greenbank: if the weather is good please look for a tall chap (probably red jacket, certainly Pearson Pave) at Putney and perhaps you could tell me all that you know and may have nearly forgotten about Audax unless the journey is planned sleep time.  I won't ride ( Pave will not accept mudguards not even the new Cruds) but I would like to see how it all works before trying next season

First time I've entered an event using paypal.  How spiffing.

See you in November for a brew at the start.  I'll be the one riding a black fixed wheel pompino with red handlebar tape.

I'll look out for you if I'm there but I can't guarantee that i'll be on that train. The other option is a bit more of a lie-in and getting the 6.21 or 6.30 from Paddington.

Does anyone have a .gpx file for this ride they would care to share?

I'll be on the bright orange Raleigh Chopper  :D

Actually, I'll be on a green Robin Mather, wearing a yellow AUK bandana and silver helmet.

I'll do one when the routesheet comes out. I think it's changed slightly since I last rode it (2006) so my previous one isn't very useful.

nikw has this one on bikely: Bicycle Path - Upper Thames 200 (unofficial) at Bikely.com

But you should pay close attention to it once the routesheet appears.

Here's last year's
   Bike Route Toaster

Got to tweak the route a tiny bit (missing road furniture).  I doubt the regulars will even notice.

Looks like it'll change a little

Thanks kcass.

I've downloaded both these files into Memory Map and they appear identical. I note Phil's comment about tweaking this year's route, so will await the routesheet before loading the Garmin!

If you use last year's to plot a GPX trace you won't go wrong.  NikW's version on Bikely looks correct.  It's the routesheet I've had to tweak, not the route, though there is one point where users of GPX based on last year's route might save themselves about 100 meters!

Just got back from a week away, so should start sending out papers early next week.  Will email wherever possible (in addition to the on-line entries, of course).

Phil.

I won't be able to do this but, as it happens, I will be riding over to very near Chipping Norton from London on the preceding Friday so if anyone spots an obvious Audaxer (i.e. Brooks saddle, Carradice bag) heading that way it might well be me.  Do say hello!
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

[EDIT] Spies Paypal entry! Hurrah! Entered.

Nntnl Rail Enquiries gives different result for Putney ( and also Paddington).  Did you set the right date?

What is the target arrival time at Sonning

Just tried both GNER and National Rail Enquiries and they both list the 5.21am train for Saturday 7th November.

What is the target arrival time at Sonning

From memory, it takes 20-25 minutes to get to the start from Reading station, so that gives me just under half an hour before the off.

DAMNIT!

I said I was going to give this a miss.

Went out for a club run on Saturday, did 50 miles, remembered that I missed cycling.

Online entry too... much too easy.

Well done Simon.

With still nearly three weeks to go we have 65 entries (assuming SimonP has pressed the necessary buttons).  So this remains one of the best-attended 200k events in the calendar.  I am truly humbled by the support I get.  I shall have to tell Mrs D to start cooking so there is plenty of her soup and pasta available at the end.

Will be my 3rd year running attending this event.  It's just too good to miss.

Need to get moving anyway as 34 points a season as in this season isn't sufficient to get my Brevet 25000 done in time.

I have one eye on that too. 25 points last season isn't going to make it easy so I can only assume that 2009 will be year 1 of 6. Maybe something for a different thread on long term goals...

I can't remember entering, but I've just been sent a routesheet so I suppose that means I'll have to ride.
