Saltire Perm - Sat 23rd Oct - Musselburgh
« on: 10 October, 2010, 11:53:21 am »
Im planning on riding the Saltire a week on Saturday EDIT staring oops! I mean starting at Musselburgh Town Hall 8am sharp.

I'm aiming for a steady ride finishing in the daylight ie by 6.30pm.

All company welcome.

IIRC it's a wee bit hilly, but a great ride.

Graeme.

A tempting offer.  Put me down as a strong maybe pending wifely clearance and a card from organiser.
By the way the hills are fine, it's the wind between Duns and Lauder that's a killer.

Thanks from a newbie

If you can guarantee good weather I could be tempted as I just love struggling up these hills and hiding behind someone strong into the wind.

Here's a linky MapMyRide.com | View Saltire 200k Audax in  Musselburgh, United Kingdom

Might not be exact tho'

V interested in doing this - it would be my first perm. What's the score in terms of turn around time for getting routecard etc?
Keep on keeping on.

That's the route.  Card turn around should be pretty quick if you use 1st class and even less of a problem if we can talk the organiser into joining us...

I'm interested if nobody objects to the company of a newbie who's never done a permanent before.

That would be great, especially given that Kev tends to be off on a bike ride of his own as soon as we hit the hills.

The idea of getting round before dark suits me. Anywhere between 9 and 10 hours total would be about right for these old legs.

What's the form then - send application to org with SAE and dosh? - then contact again with the date of ride? - then ride it and send back all the guff?

The hardest part for me would be getting up in time to get to the Burgh for the kick off  ;D
Keep on keeping on.

I've done this ride 4 times now and the quickest time has been around 10 1/2 hours, when my normal 200 is between 9 and 10 hours.  All those hills have a tendancy to slow you down a bit.

I was going to say the same thing re time on this ride.  I've ridden it twice and on each occasion I have been about 10 and a half hours (my normal 200k is also between 9 and 10 hours).

I hope I dont need them, but I'll definitely bring lights.

I can't manage this as I'm going out at 4pm on the 23rd. However if the weather's okay I may well tag along down to Duns for tea and a cake before heading back home for lunch.

Anybody who hasn't ridden this before may not know I'm the organiser - feel free to PM me if you've any questions.
It didn't look at all like that in the photographs

Would love to try it, but to much hassle with the travelling and such, after the fun i had on the 3 Glens a 200 is my next target, as long as someone is there to true/fix my wheels.

Yes I am still very keen.  The only thing that will stop me is if the weather is awful.

Looking at last nights weather forecast snow might be an issue.

This is the lastest forecast i have for next Sat.

AccuWeather.com - UK & Ireland Postal and City lookup 7YL&metric=1&fday=9

It ominously says 'warmer'
 and no rain is forecast.

It'll snow  ;D
Keep on keeping on.

My card and routesheet arrived yesterday and the forecast is still looking OK.

Who else is planning to head out?

Got my route sheet this am.

Weather is looking okay - as long the wind stays away it should be good.

It's not a challenge unless there is a strong wind. I'm going unless the snow is really deep.

According to the latest BBC forecast, it's the torrential rain that lasts all day that we'll have to worry about with virtually no wind.  Sunday - sunny with 21mph northerlies.

Sadly, for you but not for me, I shall not be in attendance. On Saturday, we are going to St Andrews with some pals to see "Buddy Holly and the Cricketers".  :-\
We will be disappointed if it's not the real Buddy Holly.
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.
