Ooh yes, the Bow Bar's good. And yes, Judy and I might sound the same but we're two people and need two dinners!

Received a confirmation e-mail today from Mr Hanam.

To summarise -

- 19th November 2011

- meet Bow Bar in West Bow (bottom of Victoria St, east end of Grassmarket) 6.30pm+ for pre dinner hydration / talk of "Great Achievements" / PBP etc etc

- dinner booked for 8.30pm

- we have a private dining room and have exclusive use all night

- The restaurant sells NO alcohol but allows BYO with no corkhage.  Extensive "dry bar" sells low alcohol beer and wine

- shisha pipe smoking permitted au terrace but must cease at 10pm

- oh yeah and the staff know were long distance cyclists and are looking forward to admiring our bodies fashioned from hardened steel / carbon / titanium.

Thats it!

1 place left.

By chance I did the Bow Bar/Hanams bit last night.  Food was very good, though the number of items on the plate did not necessarily match the menu description.  I would check your bill very carefully - they slipped in an extra main course on ours - that trick was never going to work with a party of five quantity surveyors.

I'll ask him.

Hi any takers for the last place?

Different Awards ----been thinking about this but they are no good unless I can win them---
Ecosse Points award --- no use that will go to Wothill.
Best crash award --- no use that should go to Maverick.
Best organiser --- no use as I dont organise ,we know the winner anyway.
Bike journal miles award--- That Bridie eater from Kirrie will probably beat me there.
Most annoying person on the Forum award--- Close , but would go to Kev.
Longest walk on an audax award --- done a few but Neil would get that with his mangled mech on Mull.
Doing a 200 without entering it award --- I could win that one  ;D
There must be more awards out there this year???

Considering the bunch of annoying bastards that frequent this place, this is some accolade.  All I can say is that this isn't just an award for me.  An artist is only as good their materials, with the yacf ecosse crew I have at hand some of the best materials with which to create my art.

Now now chaps.

Ive put together a list of the attendees (forum and real names where appropriate) for distribution on Saturday but Ive been a bit busy with other stuff to do any "tangible" awards.

However, taking xrtims lead heres my online nominations.

The "Different" Award - how about the guy that did both a 1200km and 1300km event in 2011.  Pass the port.

Tumble award - not a vintage year thankfully maybe only maverick or tinez.

The Michel Roux Jnr pastry based snack award - post Snow Roads bridies every time.

The "jammy sod" award for good weather - Mull It Over, Mull of Kintyre and Guy Fawkes

Best commercial control - the secret control at Forsinard on Steves 400, Jeans cafe at Lochaline, Samye LIng.

Best advert for cycling award - Elgin CC.  They make audaxing look simultaneously effortless and enjoyable.  True gents.

Best finish control - too many to mention really but softies 600 and the Three Glens spring to mind.

Best comedy moment - with Eck at the petrol station in Grangemouth on the softies 600.  "un demi coma"

Most enjoyable event - for me the Portmahomack 400.  Nice dinner the night before, fast first 80k, restorative intermediate controls, pleasant night ride to the finish, tlc on arrival at the finish, falling asleep under canvas listening to the sea and brunch on the way home at the Chefs Grill.  Great.

IMHO.

??? You've clearly blotted out the memory of the absolutely hellish grind into the headwind that we "enjoyed" between the fast first 80k and the pleasant night ride to the finish! The Mull of Kintyre was the most enjoyable event for me, closely followed by PBP.

NW England toilet patron of the year - MercuryKev

Electric heater of the year - Lecht Ski Centre on the Snow Roads
It didn't look at all like that in the photographs

The Mull of Kintyre was the most enjoyable event for me.

In retrospect it was the most pleasant calendar event of the year.  We had a heads donwn TT round Mull followed by a CTC tour round some excellent countryside -  I even got free pastries at the Kinlochleven Coop

I see Kevs making a late bid to snatch the "talking pish "award (*).

Mull of Kintyre = midgie based 600 v.  Mull It Over = ferry based 300.

(*) from me.

- Meet Bow Bar 6.30pm onwards

- Your £20 covers the cost of food only (it was £18.50 but the price has gone up to £20 recently)

- The restaurant does not sell alcohol but operates a BYO with no corkage and sells no/low alcohol drinks via a "dry bar"

- Payment for any soft drinks purchased in the restaurant are your own responsibility.

Oh aye.  I didn't ride the Mull of Kintyre event which means that it was therefore pish.

+1 .
I loved fboab's comment after the Mull 300, when she was feeling low on the last stage into Oban, and the Elgin crew caught her up and escorted her to the finish: "It was like being wrapped in a warm blanket".
Indeed, a great advert for how real gentleman cyclists should behave.  :)
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I see from the "Users Online" just now that not many of us who attended last nights soirée are out on our bikes this morning!
A great night, as always. Thanks Y L G again for organising, and to famille Y L G for their hospitality. Glad that Mr & Mrs Ernst could make it, and it was a rare opportunity for Mrs eck and me to meet our lovely but rather flakey daughter and boyfriend!  :)
The Bow bar was as lively as I remembered it, excellent service and food at Hannam's, and getting chucked out of the Castle Arms at 1am was a fitting end to a smashing night oot.  ;D
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I had a very nice evening but the need to get back to Fife on the last train merited the early exit.

Excellent food at Hamans - will deffo go there again. Nice to see some familiar faces and meet some new folk too.

Hopefully see folk on the 4th of December in sunny Fife :-)
Keep on keeping on.
