I have a little artwork on the shelf above the radiator in my house.

It reads ‘This house is protected by an ever-present coating of dust’...

My mum gave me a fridge magnet about ignoring the dust and turning out the light. For all her faults, snootiness about cleanliness isn't one of them (she'd lose!).

On Thursday my dentist X-rayed me & told me to come back in a year for my next check up.

Today’s lunch involved pork crackling.  A large fragment of molar sheared off.  I’ve a feeling this is going to be expensive & painful to repair….

Tooth repaired & she re-opened the account from last week & only charged me the difference!    She said if it fails again a crown might be required,  that tooth is about 75% filling!

Guess what happened yesterday......     not the same tooth but a chunk sheared off another rear molar.  Crusty sourdough to blame this time.

Dental appointment next week.

That tooth was repaired on the 14th of December.   I had some crusty sourdough on Saturday & the repair came off , leaving me crunching on it.    I phoned the dentist yesterday & got a next day appointment (NHS via MyDentist).    She's repaired it using a different material,  but says that if it goes again I might need to have the entire massive filling replaced or a crown fitted.

Many of my contemporaries seem to be having heavily teeth coming to bits…

Mum (87+)’s teeth seem to be holding up pretty well, though a restoration cracked when she fell last year.

Good news: my thyroid scan has been moved forward from the end of March to next Friday.

Bas news: I can't eat seafood for the next week... and the majority of the meals I ordered for next week are seafood based.

Mum's new fridge-freezer was due to be delivered today between 11:30 & 13:30.    I got the train up to give her a hand clearing the way for the delivery men.

Bastarding John Lewis delivered & installed it 3/4s of an hour early so I had a wasted trip!

That envelope of cash (yes, really, in 2024) shouldn't have been left where those removal men could spot it.

OTOH they only removed about a third of the contents. Could have been worse.

Huh! - wait until you have to renew your driving licence every 3 years!

Pretty much just a couple of questions:  Are you warm and standing up, and can see OK with/without specs?

I found it to be a double-edged sword.
Happy with the free travel, (even though I still have to cough full whack when I board the 05.56 Ginger Line from Forest Hill of a morning).
Less happy with succumbing easily to the inclination to reduce my cycling miles.

We get free travel on Merseyside as well, from Southport down to Chester.  Another 8 months for me to wait.

I've had a travel card for about 15 years.
I've used it twice.*
Both occasions I drove about 25 miles to the city and got on the park and ride to the hospital.
I'd probably need to book B&B to get there using public transport.
* OK 4 times if you count the return...

The vast majority of my tube/bus use is at sensible hours, thought I'll likely have to pay full whack to get to LHR in September chiz.

Had mine for nearly 17 years. It saved me a fortune in the Lakes in '09, especially as I'd found a B&B for 7 nights trans-weekend (don't Google for that, children) so that I could do Kendal - Shap and back for nowt.
Buses are, atm, £2/trip - bearable in all but principle.

I've noticed that our microwave's performance tails off alarmingly during times of Silly Oak vole shortage.  Which is mostly in the evenings and around lunchtime, obviously.  It took 7 minutes, 6 seconds[1] to almost completely fail to defrost a curry the other day.

[1] Throwback to our previous - much better - microwave, which in its twilight years suffered from a corroded membrane keypad, with the effect that the '0', '2' '5' and 'auto defrost' buttons were non-functional[2].  As a result we've developed some peculiar habits when it comes to arbitrary durations for microwaving things.
[2] There was a brief reprive when Hananananah The Astronononmer[3] and I carefully peeled it apart and applied conductive paint to the b0rked bit.
[3] Optical, so has entirely normal attitudes towards microwave ovens.
