Trouble is that when you open these ones there's a bloke inside saying "Now, about your rates payment...".

With electronic toys being so popular with kids these days, does anyone here think that the days of the advent calendar are numbered?

For the time being they continue to offer a window into the soul of Advent.

When I've finished handing Jurek his coat...

Advent calendars these days are for grown ups. Since I stopped living with them, the boablets have had pretty fancy advent calendars, Yankee Candle, nail varnishes etc. This year, they're not getting Christmas presents (what's the point? They are all financially independent and buy what they want/need) just the calendars.

I'm enjoying my daily bottle* of gin throughout December. Though I'm away for a week before Christmas, so there will be double rations on the remaining few days before Chringletide.

*50 ml, not 750 ml.

I voted 24 but, as we were saying at home just last week, Advent doesn't normally start on 1 December, so it should probably be "another number". Definitely can't have one for 25th though ;D

Wasn't she sacked by Biddy Baxter for getting up the stick?  Possibly with the cat-faced squealer, as S E-B was memorably described on here.
