Clever timing of the drops from the burette so that the second drop lands on the top of the splash from the first.

That is what the arduino is doing. When the camera shutter is tripped it causes a signal on the hot shoe. This triggers an interrupt ont he arduino which opens and closes a solenoid to allow a drop to pass through, waits the right amount of time and then triggers the flash.

I set the arduino program to increase the delay between drop release and flash by 5ms each photo so could then calculate how long between drops I needed to get them to collide exactly where I wanted (ca 100ms for reference[1]).

About 250ms later the flash fires. +5ms each shot so I can easily build up the stopped frame animation. Overall we shot about 400 frames in test and final.

[1] remembering that that time includes the drop formation time so is from start of cycle to start of cycle.

The tigers used to be exercised on the beach nearby.

All the photos except the owl were taken through fences like the Mike Tyson monkey is scowling out of.

My brain has died again.  I have an image on flickr that I want to post here.  Do I put the link in img tags or url tags?  Can I include an image straight from my pc or does it have to be on flickr or similar?

Maybe I should try again later after several espressos?

Although I'm never one to poopoo the idea of an espresso, just go to the 'share' drop down panel and click 'Grab the HTML/BBCode' and you should be presented with a bunch of text to copy and paste in.

I'd do it for you, but it's only the image owner who is able to do this.  Are you logged in?

Best of both worlds - an espresso and a solution.  Charlotte, you're a gent.

needs tweaking a bit, but:

Tricky moment, but it worked out well.  Good reactions, Mike. Shame about the hands in front of the faces, but I guess they weren't willing to recapture the dove and do it again ;)

Stayed in, recovering from being unwell. And I found the kids poster paints so decided to see what that would bring to the water drops.

Result!

A Sigma 12 0 - 300

It was probably a bit dark for serious stuff, but the photos are for Miss J in her project on animal movement.

It is stunning. A bit heavy though. Bought for sports, mainly, but rather good for tigers.
