Different when you have a projector screen to balance against and the rest of the room is dark. Different situations - different methods. (and a rather older camera where high and iso do not belong together.)

It would be preferable to becoming an English teacher, anyway  ;D

Sounds good to me! Remember your safety specs when standing in an erupting volcano.

What with?  Its got a sort of large format feel to it.  I've heard you refer to large format stuff before, and I'm teetering on the edge of building a 5x5 and buying a secondhand Super Angulon.  it will take some time, though...

Leica Monochrom and Zeiss 50 C-Sonnar. This was at iso 1250 plus a little bit of additonal exposure in Lightroom. The Monochrom is leaving me completely amazed. The combination of very clean tonality and resolution that is clear without being sharpended, I think because there is no demosaicing required, is the best I have ever seen. I am going to have to sell some stuff off to pay for the mono, but it has already earned its place.

I do some large format as well. It's a different way of photographing, which I enjoy. If you're building and can stretch to 5 by 7, you might try that as you can then make a nice size of contact print too. A reducing back can still take 4 by 5 of course. Depends on how much time you have for the carpentry. My local shop has a very nice looking Wista 4 by 5 in the window for £500. My Shen Hao with 4 by 5 and 5 by 7 backs cost me £700 and I've got an Apo-Symmar 210 lens, bought used. Total budget was £1,000, and I already had darkroom trays and a contact frame. Some time I'll try to scan a neg on my epson scanner too.

Obviously I meant 5x4 above, but then I think you realised I'd made a typo.

I'd never really thought about making it 5x7, but that does indeed make sense.  I could either do basic carpentry (using a lathe and milling machine is more my thing) or "contract out" the woodwork to a friend who is a demon cabinet maker.  I've got no idea how much a bellows will cost, but hey, its only money...  must get back to ebay to scout for lenses.  No lens, no project...  I've not yet checked out film availability and prices, and I've not currently got developing kit, but I used to do 35mm and 120 in reasonably large amounts for a casual amateur, so that won't worry me.

I'm going to have to find some time to dig out the large format stuff again. Not sure if I actually have access to a darkroom at the moment.

Robert White have got Shen Hao wide angle 7x5 bellows for £66 at the moment. You could build around those if your using a 90.

Peter Walnes (Arri888 on ebay) has a 90 super angulon xl I think on ebay for 550 - that looks nice and I've bought from him in the past (actually I would like that lens, but can't really afford at the moment)

I develop large format in trays

River Lea near Ware this afternoon.  Based on the number of contrails, Belgium and Holland will soon be empty.

Minimal processing, just Clarity +25 in PCE11 - it really was that clear and crisp today.

Spent the weekend in St Malo and got some shots of lights in rain that capture the way the town feels to me.

My trusty £5 bendy leg tripod is worth its weight in gold for this stuff.

I ran this one of the harbour through a high-def filter and quite like the result.

Not forgetting the groynes which are like an amazing art installation

Stood on top of the new Birmingham Central Library with my delightful girlfriend yesterday.

Went out with the waterproof Panny in my pocket but the weather's so bloody miserable it stayed there.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I photographed Stafford's "Santa Parade" yesterday.

...and the light's switch on in the evening.

I think this is probably my favourite shot of the day:
