And some from the inside! Taken in our level 3 organic chemistry lab - I love the henna-style decorations on the fume hood. Apologies for the FB link, I'll stick them on Flickr in due course.

Good to see that hexagons, colourless liquids and insoluble brown gunk are well represented...

(I never grokked organic chemistry, so spent most of my time weighing things and doing the washing up for a competent lab partner.)

I like the scrawling on the fume hood windows. Much better than sticking random bits of paper on, and more photogenic.

Looks better with clean fume hoods, of course.

We work with reality. I'd like to think that folk can spot a PR shot of organic chemistry a mile off..

Many years ago I took this picture:

Since then we have built things and knocked things down so I went up the hill tonight to shoot it again. I should have probably got the same angle but I took a wider view:

and wider still, this time with Orion.

In May 2014 I watched Amy Goodman working the clay, live, at her Hampshire studio.  She was making "War Horse" for Romsey Memorial Park

Yesterday I saw the finished piece.

As someone without artistic ability I find it amazing that this is possible.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Wrong lens and too far away, will try harder tomorrow!

Ooh!  You got an X-Pro2???!  What do you think of it?

:) So far I think it's brilliant. I've not had a Fuji before, but sold my GX7 based kit because I didn't 'bond' with it. My background is rangefinders these days, with a 1Ds3 and a couple of dslrs in the past.

I like it because it's the 'right' size and weight, has a great viewfinder and is fast. It feels like an agile camera - like my Zeiss Ikon with af and 8fps. Controls are good too, provided you like trad. It's a joy to use, being intuitive, fast and direct. The evf or the 'patch' both work well for focusing my old FD lenses (M lenses work too, but I've got bodies that take them directly), although the evf is much better if you're working close due to parallax. I've got 50/1.8, 55/1.2 and85/1.8 fd lenses that are coming out of retirement to pair with the wider end XF lenses.

Funny thing is, I nearly bought an XP1 as they're so cheap now, but decided to stump up for the XP2. I thought of it as a bike camera, to avoid rattling the rf mechanisms of my others to pieces or out of alignment, but it's become a daily carry and will probably go on holiday with me in the summer (when I have limited luggage capacity). Around town today I took the 18 lens, another day it might be the 35. All work well so far, although the 35/2 is the pick of the bunch from a useage perspective - very fast and almost silent.

Thanks for that Mike, interesting stuff.  I got an X-Pro1 to replace my GX7 for exactly the same reason.  Love the trad controls, but the slowness and iffy focussing not so much  - hence my curiosity about the 2.

Should add that I'm impressed with the files robustness. This was exposed at 1600 iso - 1 stop in camera, pushed 1.5 stops plus 55 shadow in LR with only very minor noise reduction - I tend to prefer noise. I think this is equivalent to just over 3.5 stops push in the shadows from iso1600. Only made a small print for the family album, but it looks very nice.
