quick wash
grap gear, already laid out on radiator
dressed, toasty warm
get the Bialetti on..
Pack bag, shirt & bits all ready folded ready to go
Mug of perfect coffee..
Hit the road
Feeling good, didn't drop to much speed through the hills
roads nice & quiet
roll up to lights at main roundabout..
come to stop & hold trackstand
nobody tries to cut into the space in front of me
through the market as they're setting up
call into bakers
no croisants yet, but smile from pretty girl. think thats better!
get caught by mtb rider, all the gear
not having that, so up to steady cruising speed.
check behind at next junction & i've put 150mtrs into him in 1/2 mile
bike in the rack, i've remembered my keys, all clipped to my bag ready
in & change
maggie's in the kitchen, making tea & singing

that, my friends is why we bike to work

have a good day everyone, enjoy it.

.... wish I went out to work .... I only have to go downstairs to the office, and that's not much of a ride  :(

I could feel the wind in my hair reading your piece ... great stuff.

Lovely  :)

sigh...  My only similarity is the bialetti.   It was the predictably overcrowded 6.34 train to Liverpool Street for me this morning.  :(

(two shiny airbourne bikes being put back together on the platform though - looks quite fiddly compared to a normal folder)

Gah!  Miss my smelly, polluted, crowded, idiot-strewn ride to work!
Getting there...

Same timings- different bike- raining hard all the way in- arrrived at the nick, bike into the garage, wring the gloves and overshoes out, enter the nick- folk look at me, give a wide berth (prolly due to the loony grin on my fizzog) and accuse me of being mad- nice hot shower- crewmate has cup of tea waiting for me

....  .... I only have to go downstairs to the office,

I don't have to travel that far :)
My office is the room next to the bedroom.I frequently spend the first couple of hours at work in P.J.'s & dressing gown.Is that too much information ;D.Like Greenbank I do try to start the day at a civilised hour after spending many years getting up regularly at silly-o-clock.

5am bounce out of bed
sit on toilet and read cycling magazine for 5 mins
porridge into microwave, espresso coffee pot onto hob
job laptop fired up
sandwich making time and getting fruit ready and organised to scoop into musette
5.30 yACF time on job lap top while eating breakfast and drinking 3 espressos
check MetOffice weather too
6am start work on job laptop and send off morning emails to Senior Management Team
6.40am switch off
drink bottle, lunch organised, check bike tyres and get bike out of shed
kettle on
brush teeth and get dressed into lycra
take cup of tea to Mrs G in bed and wake her up
put side light and TV on for her
peck on cheek and go go go to work
roads are relatively quiet, especially the quiet ones
roll into work at 8.45
say hello to the SPR girl as I park my bike in the wall rack
she is my early puncture notification system for day time flats
say hi to the cleaner as i walk from the secure yard to the side door
drop most of my gear in the drying room and then hit the shower
make a note that the boiler must be off again as the shower is not the normal hot hot hot
dry and dressed
say hi to cafe lady in atrium before going via admin saying hi to two staff and then into my broom cupboard
fire up job PC and make first coffee

that is why I cycle to work

0559   Alam goes, press five minute delay and listen to the radio news.
0604   Bounce out of bed, pee, weigh myself and write it on the board. Curse.
Check outside thermometer. Shower, dress, eat weetabix, check bike tyres and pack pannier with paperwork/shirts whatever.
0625    Make tea for me and Mrs G and take it to her in bed. Sit a while.
Chat if she is making any sense. Explain patiently that I haven't sold the          house/painted the dog/bought a plane... (despite what she's dreamt.)
0629   Emergency alarm goes off. Sit a while.
0639   Bounce out of bed (again), rush downstairs, get bike off hook, switch on lights, set off down a deserted lane. Get a thrill from clicking in the second foot and looking for the moon or seeing the steamy breath from the cows.
0650. Hit the dual carriageway. Dice with death over four roundabouts. Grin and shout "YeeHaaaH" if there's something very close with multiple axles.
0710.  Turn off down another little lane. Breathe deeply. Gaze at the sunrise.
0730.  Check time on the town clock as I sit at the lights beside the prison.
0745. Arrive at work. Park bike on the rack outside. Wash, change, make coffee, say good morning to Dee and Jean the cleaners. Walk to classroom across yard, despair at the appalling noise from the adjacent motorway, switch on laptop, open and print the files I've sent to myself from home, get ready for the day starting in earnest half an hour later.

Rejoice that I ride a bike.

0615 Get up and make tea and toast
0630 Do YACF daily backup while eating breakfast (used to take 10 seconds, now takes 5 minutes)
0645 Dump/shave/clean teeth in varying order
0700 Get dressed
0715 Girls emerge from their respective lairs.  Goodbye hugs.
0720 Get bike out of garage
0725 Look for pass, keys, tools etc and leave, waving at E&R through dining room window
0730 Dark lanes, overhanging brambles, slippy 90 degree bends
0735 Nastiest bit - big roundabout and short section of dual carriageway, then it's not so bad
0740 Climb hill
0745 Struggle with crappy lock on bike shed door and park bike.  Hopefully side door opens about now.
0747 Retrieve clothes and shoes from locker and towel from drying room
0750 Shower
0805 Office
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

then trip to meet new supplier, in car :( oh well, the moor still looked stunning, and trees starting to change colour. Get back to office and one of my team has prepared lunch for 10 of us. Baked squash, filled with veg rissotto. Mmm. Today was a good day
