I live a shelterd life, so was quite surprised at the level of Gay support for Roxy Music when I went to one of their comeback concerts a few years ago. The two lads next to us had been going to every gig.

Best recent music by a Gay artist (as opposed to sounding "gay") must be Queen of Denmark by John Grant. Beautiful music.

Just about everything by Queen is great for laughing and jumping around to, though I suspect that's music by someone who was gay rather than gay music.

Was the early to mid 80s really a highpoint of gay music in Britain or is that just down to age of forumites?

In gay years, a substantial amount of Britain is still in the early to mid 80s :)

Probably one of the earliest gay standards is Noel Coward's 'Mad About the Boy' which he wrote about Douglas Fairbanks Jr. There's a version by Anni-Frid Lyngstad in her pre-ABBA days, and very good it is too.

Since Marc Almond has already been mentioned, here's a camp classic with the not gay (but trying hard here with an appalling shirt and tuxedo combo) late great Gene Pitney.

Bronskei Beat STB is the one I remember the most since back in '84 I'd been in the UK a week or so (from Zim) when it hit the charts.

Somewhere over there (hand waving towards pile of C90 cassettes) I have a Tom Robinson live album with a version of Mad About The Boy on. Blessed if I can remember what the album's called though.

What the hell is Gay Music?

Hang in a minute. Don't tell me that I've spent all those years dancing to Hi-Energy disco music under false pretences??   :o :o :o

Let's face it, Tom Robinson himself outdid Noel Coward with "Sing if you're glad to be Gay".  I don't think there's much room for innuendo there.

Something I hadn't really given any thought to until Mrs T mentioned it the other night is that Pete Shelley on his Buzzcocks recordings does appear VERY camp.

I had never even thought of it, mainly because I just like the songs, but it does put a different spin on "Ever Fallen In Love"

Sorry if it's been suggested already, I don't click on youtube links just to find out the name of the song/artist.
