He's gone. Coronavirus claims another life.

Hello in there:

Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger,
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."

How every empire falls:

Padlock the door and board the windows, put the people in the street
"It's just my job," he says, "I'm sorry," and draws a check, goes home to eat
At night he tells his woman, "I know I hide behind the laws"
She says, "You're only taking orders", that's how every empire falls

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Thanks for all the music, John.  And for being a very funny man.

I'd forgotten that Sam Stone was where the line "There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes" came from

Ham, that link shows a vacuum cleaner repair, which has its own interest!

It's hard to know where to start (or stop) with poignant lines by John Prine.  One of my favourites, Late John Garfield Blues, apart from its standard Prine obliqueness, contains a terrific stanza which, sadly, resonates in our family only too well:-

Old man sleeps with his conscience at night
Young kids sleep with their dreams,
While the mentally ill
Keep perfectly still
And live through life's in-betweens

Ah. Yes. Edited now. There's a story behind that other vid, but not for this thread.
