It takes a fair effort to climb up & over the rampart, down the ditch & then up the actual side of the castle. The sides are steep enough that you need to use your hands as well as feet to climb it.

Craigmillar Castle, Edinburgh. Very close to my house, and there are plans for some mountain bike trails in the park around it.

Not strictly local, but it's the last one we went to.

The vignetting is fall-off from the lens (it's a Ricoh FF-9 compact from the 1980s).

Went out yesterday castle bagging. Mr Smith is knackered, and sat on a bench, but I scaled the dizzy heights of EUROPE'S TALLEST MEDIEVAL EARTHWORK and erm, dropped my phone out my pocket half way down, didn't realise till the bottom, and so had to go half way back up.

Here it is. My local castle. Drumroll please...

It is rather impressive actually and would be great fun to roll down, though you might get a bit bruised.

I don't think rolling down would be fun at all. It's really very steep. I had to scramble down on my hands and erm, arse, mostly. The paths are slippy skiddy chalk.
