I think this is OK, it sounds like the dog certainly enjoys it, and the cat at least tolerates it, although she seems to be a competent swimmer on the surface, if you watch <a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/SN1VcgRrEM8&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/SN1VcgRrEM8&rel=1</a>.

Some cats seem happy enough to swim, although it's hardly the norm.

I know Talisker hates water, I had to wash him once, when he got covered in grease and oil, and it's the only time he's every really scratched me, and I was wearing gardening gloves in an attempt to minimise injuries.
