How quickly should a P11D be issued?
« on: 21 January, 2010, 11:14:56 am »
I was wondering if there was a statutory timescale within which an employee should receive from their employer the P11D Statement of Expenses and Benefits form?

I've just got my 2010-2011 tax coding, and on going therough the various pieces of paper necessary to check it's correctness (at one point last year the revenue had the value of my company car down as £200,000 instead of £20,000!) I realised I havent received my 2008-2009 P11D from our accounts people (who are outsourced and won't speak directly to us).

Any info gratefully received.

Your employer doesn't have to give you a copy of the P11D. But the law says they must tell you what details they've included on the form - even if you've left the job. It's usually easier for them to give you a copy of the form when they send it to the HMRC.

If you lose your copy, your employer should be able to let you have another one. If they can't, ask your Tax Office for a copy.

P60 has to be issued by the end of May, but I don't think there is the same requirement for the P11D.

A little bit of googling turned up the following - there is a deadline of 6th July although as Simon says its a copy of the form or the equivalent information.

6 July 2009
Last date for

•your 2008 - 09 forms P9D and forms P11D, or substitutes, to reach your HMRC office
•any Return of Class 1A NICs on form P11D(b) for 2008 - 09 to reach your HMRC office
◦penalties will be charged automatically on any Returns not received by 19 July 2009
•giving a copy of the 2008 - 09 form P9D, P11D, or equivalent information, to each relevant employee

An email  has been sent, so I'll see what transpires.

Interesting, looking back at mine (they're emailed to us) I've got them in the last week of June for the last 3 years (26/06/09, 29/06/08 and 27/06/07).
