No idea how it affects speed, but it's bound to be an improvement in terms of overtaking cyclists, for those drivers who seem allergic to crossing the white line even when there isn't any oncoming traffic.

This is not news. Hampshire CC have been removing road markings and cat eyes for some time now. And, yes, in the name of road danger reduction not money saving!

It works. When they completely re-laid my road a couple of years ago they didn't replace the white lines. Cars are now driven at a visibly slower speed than when the lines were there. Indeed, the local Community Speedwatch Team say the average speed on my street (30 limit) has dropped by 8 mph to a decimal point above 30 mph! :thumbsup:
