So what chance do I have with my steam-powered Babbage special?

Same here. Everyone else please go to bed early - I've got something important to do at midnight!

For those who aren't monitoring the FB feed, Phil W had details on the technical issues & had this advice for the next go around:

How you can help yourself

Don't refresh unless you get an error, page 404 or time out or connection error.
Every time you refresh you go to the back of the queue and wait even longer
Realise the event is oversubscribed and not everyone can get a place.
Realise you have the same chance as anyone else trying to enter, regardless of where you live.

I have been out since just after 6.00pm.

this was my update from danial

Yup, it sold out in 2 minutes once we got going. The server was fine; we just got a couple of of switches wrong.

My emails have gone into overdrive. I'm ignoring most of them because they're generally a whinge at not getting a place.

Sorry too all disappointed, but  we upped the  rider numbers  by 50% and we just do not believe that UK can support a bigger ride

It is just too popular

More advice from Phil W:
1. Make sure you are using a modern browser such as Chrome, ie9 onwards, Firefox, Safari etc.
2. Make sure JavaScript is enabled
3. Make sure cookies are enabled.

See if the checkboxes are working before you fill in too much of the form.

Gone again.  3 and out for me. 3 times I've got to the stage of hitting "Place Order" and 3 times it's then sold out.

Good speed to the 1500, you had all better turn up  ;D

Can't believe people would whinge to the organisers, what do they expect to achieve?  I'm going to do the necessary to make sure I can get preferential entry in 2021 although with how popular that is that will probably have to change criteria!
