Finally! Almost harder to grind out than the ride itself

Great write-up.  How on earth do you remember all the detail?  I just barely remember a few towns I passed through (I think most had a church but they blur into one) and some controls that I struggle to differentiate or place in any sort of chronological sequence.

I envy people who can remember such detail but then I think that maybe it would involve remembering how much it hurt at times.

finally spell checked it.. well, still probably mistakes.  As I have read most other peoples, I normally get goosepimples at some of the silliest things, but it was my first ride of this length - have managed the 40 mile work commute most days since - left foot big toe is still numb but it took nearly a month after the 600 for that to go back to normal, silly sportif race shoes!  doing a 200K to keep the RRTY series going on Saturday.

which is followed by posts from my facebook that I did along the way - some interesting pictures of me completely wacked out

Great report! How you remember all the place names is beyond me - but a delightful reminder of the many culinary establishments that we visited.... now I understand how we spent so many hours off the bike  ;)

That's even more exclusive than a SWSR series, it's an EWCCSR series

Good evening!

At long last, only a few weeks after everyone else, I got mine ready, too.

My blog:PBP 2011 Ride Report
:) Excellent

Why is PBP an additional 30 km?  A few miles could be cut out getting into Brest, no?
Isn't any event that is overdistance MattC's fault?

awesome report here by Chris Ragsdale, the US guy that came in 5th in 44:36 having done an extra 40k off-route, with ref to the early crash sustained by Flatlander

Paul Rozelle's write up of doing his Galérien du Mont-Ventoux (all 4 ascents of Mont Ventoux, 3 by usual road and one by the forest road). This is the extra version of the Club des Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux which is just the 3 road climbs/descents from Bedouin, Sault and Malaucene).

On fixed.

Just three days before riding PBP (which he completed in 80h01).

Doing both Ventoux and PBP in the same week would help make the point in a more extreme fashion: if this can be done on a fixed-gear bicycle, then tell me what, exactly, cannot?

That is an impressive feat! I had never heard of the 4th way up the forest road.

A very interesting approach to PBP prep - didn't seem to do him much harm though.

Chapeau indeed.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

It depends if he normally finishes in 60h...

Paul ('The Octopus') is a very strong rider but usually doesn't aim for 'a time'.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

I've never met Paul, but Heather interviewed him at Brest in 2007, 1.28 in this video.

Mine is up in Ride Reports.  It needs condensing down into club mag size, which I reckon means I need to cut it from 3,000 to 2,000 words.  Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hardly late. Arrivee is still publishing accounts of LEL2009, after all

That's because so much has already been published on blogs and places like this.

That's a lovely write-up, Bill.  Really touching, and really captures the spirit of the event (highs & lows, both)  for me.

I enjoyed your write-up.  Our paths must have crossed a few times (we started at the same time and finished within 90 minutes of each other).
