Indeed, one of the luckiest things I did for PBP was to arrange to stay with a family.  More or less on a whim, I responded to a posting on the website for PBP where riders could request housing and residents and hotels could offer housing to riders.  Because my wife could not join me in Paris, I thought that I might enjoy staying with a family, rather than in a hotel, and that this might make the experience more personal.  I had not imagined, however, that I would meet such generous people as the Rosselle family, or that they would take such good care of me.

Mark Bigam (Bigsbaby) & I also stayed with a family in the Guyancourt area arranged through the PBP website where we were treated as honoured guests. It was fabulous, really. A cherry on the top of my PBP experience.

It is both long-winded and late, but here is my account of PBP:

That's a lovely write-up, Bill.  Really touching, and really captures the spirit of the event (highs & lows, both)  for me.
Yup. It captures the human side beautifully.

Bill,

A masterful piece of work. While most of our write-ups are of interest primarily to those us who have participated in the event, yours has a much wider resonance.
I think you have captured perfectly what many of us feel about this event so Chapeau to you for finding the words to express this so evocatively.

Wonderful account. Lovely to read a report from someone for whom it was all they hoped for and more.

Thank you all for reading my account, and thank you also for your kind words.  I am grateful to have discovered this forum, and the fact that I did stands as testimony to the effectiveness of your jerseys, which I saw frequently on PBP.

Blueskies: I liked your video because it gave such a good account of what it felt like to ride PBP.  But I also liked it because your leaving your brevet card  in a bar reminded me very much of me losing my wallet.  It's interesting how sleep deprivation leads us to mistakes we would not otherwise make.  It is even more interesting how we work through the problems that follow from those mistakes.

Paul Rozelle has put his PBP ride report up on Randon:-

Great read, and I think Manotea gets a mention...

Good point; I have fixed my lightening gaffe.  I had been hoping one day to master this language, but it is a tough slog.

Here is a report of guy riding in crocs and doing the 100 cols challenge just before that French ride - http://iikinfrance.blogspot.com/p/paris-brest-paris-2011.html .

PS: Also interesting, his take on really lightweight touring - http://ultralightcycling.blogspot.com/ also with special section on PBP - http://ultralightcycling.blogspot.com/p/nova-stran.html .

Now that it's come out in the comic, I thought I'd publish a PBP report made up of my own tweets, which make for easier reading than an enormous essay (and are illustrated with random and unrelated photographs of PBP, to boot).

I've waited until it appeared in Arrivee before putting my write up on the net. It was partly inspired by a remark of Bill Watts' on here about people not cheering you in everday life. I wrote it and sent it off to Arrivee before he posted his write-up, it was nice to see how we were thinking along the same lines.
