Shimano E-Thru 8mm axle

There have been a number of threads about axles recently.  Does anyone know about these and their associated hubs eg DH-T708? Is it a good idea?

I had a look at the diagram

It seems to me that the axle is inboard of the forks and the wheel rests on the thick skewer.

Mal Volio of this Parish commented that he managed to get home with a broken hub before, might not be so easy with this design.

Depends which bit of the hub, dunnit?  If you mean the axle, then yes, maybe.  How many times have you broken an axle?  And what other components on your bike MIGHT break and MIGHT leave you unable to ride home.  Stem?  Handlebars?  Chain?  Cranks?

Don't worry so much. :)
