GP surgery rang me this evening inviting me for repeat smear.
I told receptionist I thought I'd had a letter after my last, stating I was too old for any more.
Decided to go for it anyway.
Get offered an appointment for tomorrow.

Look at computer Calendar.

'Ooooh sorry, I've got Covid, I'm not supposed to go out!'

Silly me!

I've now booked another date.

Looked up routine screening: every 3 years up to 50.
Every 5 years age 50-64.
Stop after 65.

Which explains why I received letter with result just after I was 60, stating they'd stop.

I'll still go unless they cancel.

In Germany it’s still every year for me and I’m 50. I missed the last one as I didn’t fancy it due to COVID and am debating whether to hookup now. I don’t really like my Frauenarzt but it’s hard to get on the books of another. My GP is brilliant but they don’t do smears.

I have an appointment to see a man about a plastic joint.
Looks like we might be getting another Longstaff in our house. Should I view this as a positive sign?

Sounds hopeful.
Seems LL qualified a LONG time after I did.
My GMC Number is 2585534...

Every year? Jeez. I was delighted that my last results came back and said that due to the new way they're screening in Scotland now I get 5 years off \o/

I was equally pleased when I receive That Letter in 2018 saying No More, as I'd be >65 in 5 years' time...

I was relieved to get my delayed-by-a-year-cos-Covid smear done BEFORE my hip surgery because I still can't get my legs to do the smear position and it wasn't easy pre-op. I'm now left alone till 2024.

I will need to be hauled onto the couch.
SuspectI'll need somebody to position my thighs, as there is no strength.
I am fortunate to have full passive hip movements.

Will you have to take someone with you to do the hauling or do the GPs' staff assist. Several of my friends can't get smears cos no GP has any hoists and just assumes they can transfer... One paid £££ to get the HPV vaccine privately to reduce her risk factors cos smears aren't accessible.

Can't remember what happened in 2018.
I know David came but that was pre Covid, of course...

You're totally legitimately allowed David again. I've taken Kim to GP appts, cos she's shoving the wheelchair and helping with comms. I am sure if you say "David will help me transfer" they'll be so grateful they'll just let him. Good luck when it comes!

It's a waiting game. 3-6 months for a new one. Then 3-6 months recovering.

Bone on bone. Like knock on wood, but less funky.

Ouch! Hope surgery is able to help and you're back on your legs properly soon.

Ouch². That must hurt like hell - I know that when my ankles were playing silly buggers it was breath-stopping, and occasionally the leg would just collapse.  Fortunately they never both cut loose at the same time.

FWIW for some unfathomable reason my ankles cleared up most of the way, and I only get twinges if I've been doing something unnatural such as walking > 5 km.  Hope your knee does the same.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I hope they can keep it at the short end of the waiting.

That picture made we wonder whether metallic L and R stickers would be a useful thing for X rays, though I know which way round and whose left and right are an important topic in medical school.

They're very much a thing, though I suspect radiographers marking the images electronically at time of acquisition is more common these days.

Not seen markers for a while now with digital images. I think it is a slide thing on the cassette.
