just did and it's changed my mind - they move much better from one position to the other than I'd expected.  Nice invention!

Absolutely the same as my response!

My first impression was "utterly stupid idea". Then I watched the vid.

That kid has a future as a design engineer.

I still have doubts about the strength of those hinged joints.

I don't see how the bar end shifters and brakes would cope with that moving

Already UCI illegal. Rule 1.3.023 specifies that TT/pursuit extensions must be "fixed".

position where the forearm is in the horizontal plane is permitted. The distance
between the vertical line passing through the bottom bracket axle and the extremity of the handlebar
may not exceed 75 cm, with the other limits set in article 1.3.022 (B,C,D) remaining
unchanged. Elbow or forearm rests are permitted (see diagram «Structure (1B)»).

Interesting idea though.

Also not legal for CTT time trials - bars must be a minimum of 35cm width.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

I thought about something like this a while back, but couldn't work out how you'd make the hinge strong enough. Then I realised that there's not a chance in hell that it'd be allowed by any governing body!

The kid who designed it does Triathlons. Their ruling bodies seem to allow anything  ::-)
