I found a wallet on my way in yesterday – lying in the gutter, very soggy. It contained a debit card, driving licence, Army ID, NAAFI card, a £20 note and two unmentionables.
The driving licence had an address but a search did not turn up anything.
I was planning to drop it round in the evening but Miss R suggested a Twitter post.
So she asked if anyone knew a Joe Bloggs, private in the Army from a place in Surrey who had lost a wallet. It was re-tweeted 70 times and within a few hours he had been found. A random Sergeant saw the Army mentioned and traced him through some database. I was sent a phone number a short while afterwards.
The wallet was collected yesterday evening by a very relieved young man. Strange thing is, it was found quite a long distance (1ml or so) from any route he remembers taking the previous day. If it had been dropped in the supermarket carpark as he thought, and been found and then discarded, the £20 note would not have still been in it.
Still, all’s well etc...
