Bike bites mum, 21
« on: 12 August, 2008, 01:47:45 pm »
OK, so the 21 bit is a lie (looks better than the real thing though) but the rest of it is true.

I was moving my everyday bike (mtb with baby seat) from one side of the garden to the other, not even fettling FFS, and somehow put the bike down wrongly.  The chain ring has removed a very deep chunk of my lower shin.

I looked at it, and could see a lot more of the inside of my leg than is a good idea , went very hot and wobbly, and phoned for Mr F to come and help.  I now have 3 stitches and 3 steristrips holding my shin together; Mr F didn't do that (wrong kind of doctor) but he did take me to A&E and kept an eye on M.

I would post photos but there is no way I'm taking the dressing off yet, and anyway my legs are a bit hairy.

Oh dear  :(

Y'see - this is why cyclists shave their legs.  You can't post gore pictures if you have hairy legs  :D

Get well soon and happy scab-picking  ;)

Not quite!  Did have to sit down quickly.  It didn't actually hurt at the time, but man, it looked grim.

Yeurgh. That even makes me feel a bit wobbly. But as Charlotte says, think of the scab-pick-fest to come

After that daft ped bust my rib I got road rash on me shoulder and elbow. Some of the scabs were the size of a fifty pee piece.

They never do.  It's afterwards, when it starts throbbing, I don't like.

Disappointingly I don't think the scabs are going to be all that great - it's deep rather than a lot of surface area.

I was complimented on how easy it was to stitch, very straight and nice neat edges!

Edit: Chris, the local anaesthetic is just starting to wear off, smarts a bit now!

Yowsers. Dose up on ibuprofen! No point experiencing the pain if you don't have to...

Sympathy for the injury and commiserations for no longer being 21.

Owwww....sympathy...

A little while ago le Bloke moved my bike while I was standing with my back to it, and it slipped on the laminate and embedded four chainring teeth into the back of my leg. I called him many bad names in between the roars of pain...

Sympathy indeed.

I remember the day I tripped over the top of a style, fell off and landed with my leg on the chainring.  Ouchy indeed

Why are chain rings so sharp and dangerous?!

The anaesthetic has completely worn off and now my legs stings like anything.  Paracetamol and ibuprofen aren't really helping.  And now my arm hurts from the tetanus injection  :(

Went to see the nurse to get the stitche out today - yay!  But she decided they need to stay until Friday to heal a bit more -boo.  It's itchy now.

Anyway, I decided to take a photo.  You can't see the hairs on my legs too much.

Those ones are good too, you pick the scab off and then another one appears, and another... rich pickings indeed

Anyway, hope you mend soon :)

I did warn you that my legs are hairy.  Although I didn't think they were that bad.

Hope the stitches come out and you're feeling better soon, Fiendish.
