help an inept fella out-new BB and chainset

right,

so i have my order in for a new road going fixer (a BJ vigorelli, woop woop!), and am beginning to look into what i'm putting on it.

i have wheels that i got built for my pompino, and want to get a good BB and crank to match the rear hub.

rear hub is a dia compe gran compe, which according to the blurb on it, needs a chainline of 42mm.

the pomp had an FSA gimondi chainset, not sure of the BB though.

pricewise, i was thinking of perhaps a stronglight 2000 crank (in silver), or a sugino rd2, but not sure of where to start with regards to the BB.

the fsa gimondi did look nice, and wouldn't rule it out again, since it did me fine on the pompino.

in an ideal world the campag pista would be on the cards purely from an aesthetic pov, but economically not a go-er this time!

any thoughts?

hmmm, the fsa looks nice!

i think this is a classic case of not looking beyond what i'm used to though.

and still fairly in the dark about BBs. i read sheldon's article and *kind of* understand the principles, but can't translate them into the practicality of getting the correct bb, crank, and rear hub

I've got a couple of Strong light 2000 chain sets. No complaints. They look great and work fine. You'll need a 107mm JIS BB.
Planet X are the cheapest I know of...

Thanks flatus,

So match the 2000 chain set with this http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/BBSTJP400/stronglight_jp_400_jis_bottom_bracket should see me right?

Hope I'm right in saying the rear hub has a 42 chainline.

Funny thing is, that with my old pomp I don't think I ever took notice of chainline and all that jazz-I picked the new hub because it was going cheap!

What do you all reckon about how a stronglight would look with the bj?

That will work, gran compe and track 2000 with 107mm Bb.

The track 2000 is quite a modern looking c/set. Paired with some deep rims it would look amazing.

Here is an example (similar but not identical chain set)

Thank you!

That looks lovely alright, although mine will be a bit less bling I'm afraid-open pro rims, two brakes (i'm a chicken), barley thrown on the back, n80+cyo and mudguards!

Another vote for Stronglight Track 2000.   I used the Stronglight 107mm BB, both from Planet X/On-one.
