David's en route to Kerry.
AIUI mobile calls and roaming within the EU should cost no more than domestic use (before Brexit) yet EE have sent him a text stating he'll need to pay extortionate amounts for Internet access abroad.
He's on PAYG and EE's website suggests he needn't get stung.
Are they trying it on?

He can use his normal UK allowance (subject to caps - 15Gb a month, no more than 60 days per 120 days). Once his allowance is used up, the EU add-ons kick in at £2/3/4 per day. These are not automatic, so he won't be stung without knowing.

Thanks! I've bought an EU & UK data add-on and he supposedly has a fair amount left.
He's away for a week, is unlikely to stream videos but has a journal article to submit, which should not use too much!

Indeed, he was approaching Dublin.
He should have been on land a couple of hours now. Don't know if he is moving or sleeping.

You could probably get a mobile signal from land in much of the Irish Sea. Though would have to tell the phone to manually select a network, not just roam onto the best signal. And sit next to the window, on the correct side of the boat.
Even if you are standing on land, the phone could roam onto an expensive cruise ship network.
Don't the ferries have WiFi anyway? Though it may not be cheap.

Don't think David was minded to pay MONEY for a three hour crossing!
He only sent short messages, which didn't seem to touch his allowance.
Anyway, he's now in the cottage and is happily connected to all his devices.
