SATA 2.5" Firewire Enclosure
« on: 26 April, 2008, 03:12:42 pm »
Does anyone know where I can find one of these?

I've cracked the case of my Western Digital USB drive and would like to upgrade to Firewire.

Firewire is more expensive than USB2 (although you should see slightly better performance for sustained transfers)...  Having said that, try for example specialtech or storagedepot.

I Googled for sata firewire enclosure.

These all seem to show 3.5" devices - I'm after a 2.5" for an existing drive.

Firewire is more expensive but is bootable - which is important for me

Here's another one.

Not SATA though.  Do you need SATA?

Yes it's for an existing drive that's SATA. At least it says SATA and doesn't fit into my enclosures that take drives marked ATA. I'm not very technical

Maybe see if you can find one of these?  They do seem to be oddly hard to find, bootable USB2 is presumably only an OpenBoot patch away...

edit scratch that, yet another IDE enclosure.  Have you thought about getting some of those rails to make a 2.5" drive fit in a 3.5" case?
