On the opposite side of the road to my shop is a pay and display car park The pay and display function is suspended making parking free.

Today a lazy toad parked on the grass verge between the pavement and car park fence whilst he popped into the shop.

Special people some of these drivers.

I thought that was a bad photoshop at first. The angle that the picture was taken excludes all shadows of the car from the picture, so it looks like a poor cut and paste job.

I know this was due to the weather, not the drivers, but parking where there is a flood warning sign is asking for trouble.

Busy residential area, plus quite a few B&B's on the RHS of that road so it's always busy with cars. Admittedly if I lived there and saw there was a flood warning I'd move my car, but I never cease to be surprised by the laziness of most people who drive everywhere.

Depending on where you live, you can get used to flood warnings being issued and not amounting to more than an inch or two. In which case, unless there's an obvious flood risk right next door like a river, you might expect no different.

It’s not really parking as such, but:

It was flooded as badly there almost exactly a year ago.

I was thinking of visitors – "quite a few B&Bs". If you actually live there then obviously you should be familiar with the flood patterns.

I know it’s shallow, but that’s quite satisfying.

Some 35 years ago at the Oxford Cambridge boat race someone had parked on the slipway at Putney and the tide was coming in. A fireman went to smash the side window, but in front of a large audience he slipped and embedded his fire axe in the door panel.

I think that nearly every time I cycle along the Putney riverside at high tide (got my feet wet last time) here's a car parked at the edge and half underwater. It's always a fat, shiny wanktank.

It could be the same guy, I suppose, having discovered an innovative automated car-washing solution.

On a similar note, a Vauxhall Victor which parked on Cleethorpes beach in the 1980s re-emerged earlier this year

Double yellows, blocking pavement, engine running, on the phone, right beside the entrance to a car park. Beyond fuddery

^^ Not on double yellows, not on the pavement, not on a cycle path, that's quite a sensible parking spot!

No photo, but if there's a massive puddle the width of the pavement, don't park your effing bike on the lamppost next to it covering the only dry spot.

If that was my bike- it would be on the driest spot I could find so....   ;)

I think that is not unreasonable parking. With the car to the viewers right in the wrong place, by parking at a slight angle the Mercedes has maximised drivers door access for vehicles either side.

It's basically an SUV with even worse interior space limitations but without the ride height and useful ground clearance.  I imagine they fly out of the Jag showrooms, though.
