That's it for the season
« on: 10 May, 2021, 11:03:06 pm »
For fans of sport, rather than wealth, the 1st Division is over for another season.  Burnley's win means Fulham, West Brom and Sheffield United go down.  It's a bitter pill for Fulham, who have taken 4 points off last year's champions, Liverpool.  Lowly Brighton did the same and even Newcastle are unbeaten by Liverpool this term.  (I rather think Manchester City may celebrate regaining the title by declaring at half-time against the Magpies on Friday, however!)

It is simpler than it looks.

Which 1st division ?

The current Permiership, or what's now the Championship or the old third division that's now the 1st Division?

Why they thought changing the names makes any difference is beyond me. Its just confusing.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Keep up at the back! It's called League 1.

This is why I refer to it as the first division (I've decided to remove the capitals because that is no longer its name) and so on down to the fourth division, after which the lower leagues have reasonably sensible names.  I don't call them "Division One", etc. because that is a name and not the current one (even though the current one is stupid).  I think my way (I'm not alone) is both historic, relevant, logical and easy (it's also a pretty irritating song, though the French original is bon).

It's not quite over as Dr Davis, my highly-esteemed bro-on-law, has spent much of the weekend watching the playoff semis and wishes to commiserate with any FGR supporters on this forum.

A Tranmere-FGR playoff could have led to serious ructions within the ranks of Half Man Half Biscuit since Nigel Blackwell is a fanatical Tranmere supporter while drummer Carl Henry is Forest Green to the extent that he’s been known to wear his footie shirt during gigs.

They will have had a difficult at Wembley a few years ago, then.
It is simpler than it looks.
