Gelert Solo - Anyone have one near Eastbourne?
« on: 15 March, 2012, 10:24:15 pm »
So as we come into spring I'm looking at tents again, after my couple of camping trips last year I'd quite like something that packs up a bit smaller/lighter.

Was rather tempted by the Gelert Solo last time I looked but measurement and photos don't sem to click for me and I'm worried that I might not have enough room in there.

I was just wondering if someone near Eastbourne, E Sussex happens to have one that they wouldn't mind me testing in their garden sometime, no rush, just whenever we get a good day that works for us both?

Bought one for my daughter. She is 5' 5" or thereabouts. It is cramped for her.

It is tiny. Good for an emergency.
It is simpler than it looks.

Yeomans have a tent show at Middle Farm, Firle, starting the 3rd April. It might be worth looking in there to see if anything suits? They usually have some lightweight tents in with the huge 10 men ones! And Middle Farm cafe is nice, even if the tents are rubbish ;D.

Cheap, light, reasonably well made.
2 downsides:
Glass-fibre poles are a little fragile.
Size-wise it's the nearest thing to a nylon coffin you are ever going to find.

Solo is a bit teeny. You may want to consider a bedrock or similar.
