There are loads of crap Christmas songs but there are some good ones, ie:
David Bowie and Bing Crosby - Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy (actually I only really like the part that Bowie sings)
Jona Louie - Stop the Calvary
The Farm - All Together Now
-
Arthur Mc Bride - Paul Brady

Bzzzt! "Stop The Cavalry" not a Christmas song, says Jona Lewie, who ought to know.
-
The Farm record is never played as a Xmas song, probably because it doesn't have bells in it.
My guilty pleasure is Johnny Mathis' "When A Child Is Born", even with the kitsch spoken bit. "Black...white...yellow"

Pretty much everything on this recording (https://oytotheworld.com/).

Fairy tale of New York

Sleigh Ride ~ Leroy Anderson & His Pop Concert Orchestra ( 1948 version )

Dean Martin ~ I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm

Yebbut Bruce Willis says Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie.
Actually I probably agree with Bruce on that one ... but Stop the Cavalry clearly IS a christmas song, and I'd like to see what %age of his royalties Mr Lewie would see without December being counted.
(It's my favourite, so I'm hardly going to reclassify it.)
The Bowie/Crosby thing is pretty fucking good too.

Probably Stop the Apartheid Fascists by Rory McLeod. I known the title doesn't sound very Christmassy but it does contain this great chorus:
And I'm dreaming of a black Christmas
With black snow blowing outdoors
'Cos a black kid asked me why
She's never seen a black Santa Claus

DH is the Christmas movie. I'm sure we'll work through the boxset over the hols (minus number five on account of the fact that it is shit), but DH1&2 are Christmas Eve traditions.

4.0 is shit too.

Come on, it has Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it, which means it can't actually be bad.
Besides, it's brilliant. Signature bad guy and badass henchperson. Wisecracks. Unwilling sidekick. Gradual accumulation of injuries. And a bonus boot-up of movieOS. Everything you need from a DH film.
It's the last one which, tbh, the erasure of which from history ought to be the prime motivation for inventing a time machine (and evidence that time travel can't exist, because that's the first thing anyone would have removed from history, then Hitler and stuff). They should do all the Terminators other than 1 and 2 also.
-
A Spaceman Came Travelling by Ol' Monobrow is awesome.
Keeping The Dream Alive by Freiheit isn't explicitly about Christmas but it's a choon, especially the extended version with extra brass.
All Alone At Christmas by Darlene Love. Normally I can't stand Phil Spector's sound, but this just works.

I had to turn off the radio. I reached the threshold. If I hear another repeat play Fairytale of New York (and worse, the sanitized version), I'll go postal.

bloody Die Hard discussion on bloody YACF at bloody Christmas,
.. oh shit. I started this, didn't I. I'll have to shoot myself

Be sure to wisecrack first.

Welcome to the party, pal.

What no-one seems to mention is what a crappy title it is. People wasted no time leaping on "Die Harder" for not making grammatical sense yada yada ... but "Die Hard" was an appalling title in the first place!
(Sorry Bruce - I still love you. x )
-
Never seen it, watched trailer. Had forgotten that Bruised Willy once had :o hair :o.
-
It's an awesome title. Says all it needs to.
Fired it up on the DVD last night to supercharge our Christmas mood. Blimey, that was a different time. Smoking everywhere. Electrified poodle perms big enough to bang on the underbelly of the stratosphere (honestly, we don't even have smell-o-vision, but you could smell the hairspray). Car phones the size of impracticality. Shoulder pads that could stop a round. From a tank.
Anyway, it's a fucking A.
Tonight it's Die Harder. If there's one thing we can be sure of, John McClane wouldn't be letting any drone close his airport.
-
Hoagy's classic "My Christmas Song For You".

If you think that is embarassing just take a look at 'The Running Man'. Nuclear teeth!
And they didn't even have the excuse that it was Christmas . . .
-
Not recognised as such, but River by Joni Mitchell always touches a chord.
-
A fabulous song. The whole LP ("Blue") is marvellous. The juxtaposition of Christmas coming and your child going (for adoption) is heartbreaking but made bearable by the sheer artistry of the writing and the performance. Thanks, Joni - and Hatler!

Heard this on the radio for the first time yesterday, though it's a few years old, apparently. Absolutely love it...

This Unit has a soft spot for The Poacher's Christmas (https://youtu.be/0GKUj6rxgwI) by The Kipper Family. DJ Random actually played it at a vaguely-appropriate time of the year last week. Rather than, say, in late August on the Scorching PlainsTM of New Mexico like last time.
