Shallots, very finely sliced* and simmered in olive oil. A couple of sliced tomatoes, some sliced mushrooms, a few new potatoes (microwaved then sliced). A pack of "thick cut Wiltshire ham" from the cheap cabinet at Tesco.  Crack in a couple of eggs and serve with a dollop of hot sauce. Wash down with Chilean Merlot.

I bought a 21cm "Mora" chefs knife earlier, it's bloody sharp

Mackerel and rice with sweetcorn and chickpeas. Not had it for ages and there'll be enough for tomorrow as well. Not much washing up either.

A sweetcorn/runnerbean/potato chowder thingy my wife makes. So nice, I had two bowls, then ate what she was saving for my lunch tomorrow.

Potatoes with cheese and peppers from this recipe.
And squash cake for pudding (a fluke recipe I made up this afternoon with a yellow squash from our veg box, and which has turned out beautifully!).

Just demolished a chilli con carne with grated ched atop pasta and (a first for me) chased with a bit of Montezuma's Very Dark Chocolate.

Not my usual choice for afters - but have to confess to it being rather OK :)

I grilled some tuna steaks in a home made lime and chilli baste.  Had it with steamed veg and some Sicilian white wine.

My wife is on holiday for a week so I'm going to raid the cupboards and use up various stuff which has been languishing there for the last few months.  2nite on the menu is a tin of squid which I'll have with some pasta and cherry tomatoes.

I've already made a start on the Romanian merlot from the Co-Op which is pleasantly quaffable.

Roast chicken and roast potatoes, with green beans and courgettes from the garden, and proper gravy, followed by plum crumble with proper custard, all washed down with a bottle of Black Sheep.

Is it my birthday or something? ;D
