And they won. All credit to Lopez who could easily have pulled out to concentrate on the singles

And guess who Murray A and his partner Melo M are playing in the first round of doubles at Eastboune? Yep, the no. 1 seeds Cabal & Farah again  ::-)

We’ve been today and seen Stan win, a five setter with the men’s seventh seed knocked out, a retirement and the women’s third seed win. Quite a day.

That seems to happen often enough that you could cross-post to the "BONG ..And Here is the Not News..BONG" thread. ;)

Dan Evans match looked like it'd be a walkover in the first set-and-a-half, but now it's pretty gripping!

You've got to feel pretty sorry for Carla Suarez Navarro.  She's played Serena Williams 7 times now and taken a total of 20 games from her!

I'm not normally a great tennis fan, although I do dabble.

Is it not unusual for the combined ages of the world top 3 to be over 100 years?

I would say it is.

related factoid from yesterday's coverage: that was the oldest (Gents) semi-final foursome in the open era.

Cracking match by Fed-n-Raf! I'm not a big fan of the latter, but you have to love his commitment. He was giving 110%(at least) in the last few games, as Federer sloooowly closed in on the win. Some amazing points.

I hope the final is as good, although I fear my guy is less likely to win that one.

A gutsy win by Konta, means:

Johanna Konta is the first British woman to reach the quarter-finals at the US Open since Jo Durie made the semi-finals in 1983 - that's 36 years ago!

It’s hard to imagine the age gap between Coco Gauff and Venus Williams in terms of their tennis careers.  Another great win beating a great.

An example of casual sexism today at the Cincinnati tournament. The women’s semis are scheduled to be played at the same time - so only one match will be on the main show court. The men’s semis are scheduled one after th3 other, allowing both to be played on the main show court. Personally I’d rather see Osaka than Raonic.

ETA: It gets worse. The women’s matches are on the equivalent of courts 1 and 2. The men’s on the equivalent of centre.  Hmmm

I’m quite heartened this morning by the general air of sympathy that seems to prevail in MSM for Emma Raducanu’s retirement due to apparent anxiety issues yesterday evening. It’s a much more positive approach towards mental health than we’ve seen in earlier years. McEnroe even seemed to draw parallels with his own first appearance at Wimbledon although he has also been criticised for his comments.

I think she has a bright future
