Life, it's ever so strange
It's so full of change
Think that you've worked it out
Then BANG
Right out of the blue
Something happens to you
To throw you off course
And then you
Breakdown
Yeah you breakdown
Well don't you breakdown
Listen to me
Because
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you round and round
Sometimes you're up
Sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared
Don't hide your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget it's just a ride
Truth, we don't wanna hear
It's too much to take
Don't like to feel out of control
So we make our plans
Ten times a day
And when they don't go
Our way we
Breakdown
Yeah we breakdown
Well don't you breakdown
Listen to me
Because
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you round and round
Sometimes you're up
Sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared
Don't hide your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget it's just a ride
Slowly, oh so very slowly
Accept that
There's no getting off
So live it, just gotta go with it
Coz this ride's, never gonna stop
Breakdown
Don't you breakdown
No need to breakdown
No need at all
Because
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you all around
Sometimes you're up
Sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared now
Dry your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget enjoy the ride
Summer rain, dripping down your face again
Summer rain, praying someone feels the same
Take the pain killer, cycle on your bicycle
Leave all this misery behind
It is the night. My body's weak.
I'm on the run. No time to sleep.
I've got to ride.
Ride like the wind to be free again.
And I got such a long way to go.
To make it to the border of Mexico.
So I'll ride like the wind.
I was born the son of a lawless man.
Always spoke my mind with a gun in my hand.
Lived nine lives
gunned down ten.
Gonna ride like the wind.
And I got such a long way to go.
To make it to the border of Mexico.
So I'll ride like the wind.
Ride like the wind.
Ride like the wind.
Accused and tried and told to hang
I was no where in sight
when the church bells rang.
Never was the kind to do as I was told.
Gonna ride like the wind before I get old.
It is the night. My body's weak.
I'm on the run. No time to sleep.
I've got to ride.
Ride like the wind to be free again.
And I got such a long way to go.
To make it to the border of Mexico.
So I'll ride like the wind.
Ride like the wind.
And I got such a long way to go.
To make it to the border of Mexico.
So I'll ride like the wind.
Gonna run like the wind.
Don't tempt fate
Never eat late
And keep away from Yeovil Town.

Brings to mind long overnight rides, travelling through the tranquil darkness with short blasts through the oasis of light and sound of small towns at pub throwing out time.Mrs C is very keen that I add another Runrig title to this thread, which practically serves as a route sheet for the Sutherland audaxes organised by Steve & Denise Carroll -

69th St Bridge song - not sure it needs any changes
Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.
Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.
Hello lamp-post,
What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.
I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.

Questi giorni quando vieni il belle sole
la la la la la-la-la-la la la la la
On days like these when skies are blue and fields are green
I look around and think about what might have been
and then I hear sweet music float around my head
as I recall the many things we left unsaid
it's on days like these that I remember
singing songs and drinking wine
while your eyes played games with mine
on days like these I wonder what became of you
maybe today you are singing songs with someone new
I’d like to think you're walking by those willow trees
remembering the love we knew on days like these

I'm sure Yusuf Islam would want a proper attribution.Quote"Morning Has Broken" is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. Lord, behold us with thy blessing,
once again assembled here;
onward be our footsteps pressing,
in thy love and faith and fear;
: still protect us, :
: by thy presence ever near. :
For thy mercy we adore thee,
for this rest upon our way;
Lord, again we bow before thee,
speed our labors day by day;
: mind and spirit, :
: with thy choicest gifts array. :
Keep the spell of home affection
still alive in every heart;
may its power, with mild direction,
draw our love from self apart,
: till thy children, :
: feel that thou their Father art. :

Many rivers to cross
But I can't seem to find my way over
Wandering I am lost
As I travel along the white cliffs of dover
Many rivers to cross
And it's only my will that keeps me alive
I've been licked, washed up for years
And I merely survive because of my pride
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's such a drag to be on your own
My woman left me and she didn't say why
Well, I guess I'll have to cry
Many rivers to cross
But just where to begin I'm playing for time
There have been times I find myself
Thinking of committing some dreadful crime
Yes, I've got many rivers to cross
But I can't seem to find my way over
Wandering, I am lost
As I travel along the white cliffs of Dover
Yes, I've got many rivers to cross
And I merely survive because of my will...

But I don’t want to go in the ambulance
Some songs suggest a specific narrative. This one seems to be about a 400 in Kent, he's been dropped early on, possibly a mechanical. His partner has gone on with the main group, and he's now considering using google maps to answer the information control question.QuoteMany rivers to cross

That song might suit the confused state of mind of the tired rider off course - I don't think there are many (if any) rivers that come out on the white cliffs of Dover. A case of the words written for the sound rather than their sense - like most pop music! The words actually fit the story and, in particular, the character played by Jimmy Cliff in the film. TBH, I'm not sure about the White Cliffs of Dover, but he is wandering around as a fugitive chased by the Police at one point...maybe Jamaica has it's own version? He certainly ends up on the coast as I recall. ;)
Yes, I've seen the film but it was a long time ago. Maybe the white cliffs was a shady bar or something! (Or a pile of cocaine!)

You'll Never Walk Alone. Being from Liverpool, this ones in the blood. I keep it for when times get tough. Not had to break that one out yet...
So in the morning I awoke
I turned my eyes towards the road
I swallowed hard and smelt the air
I cursed this world for not being fair
Oh in the morning I awoke
And through the seasons I have journeyed
Without a clue to where I'm bound
I lost my bearings long ago
I watched our heroes come and go
And since then I've heard no sound
So let me go far
So let me go far
And when I reach there let me know
I've been down one time
I've been down two times
But now I'm drowning, drowning in the sea of love
Let me tell ya all about it
I've been out here so very long, I've lost all my direction
Baby when you came my way I thought I'd found my protection
But a strong wind came into my life, surely took me by surprise
& I can't seem to control these tears that's falling from my eyes
Listen to me
Baby I depended on you, for a love & affection
But now you gone and deserted me, can't you see that I'm in desperation
I'm in the middle of a bad love storm, ew yeah I just can't let it boy I
Looked around and all I could see, was water coming over me
All I do is cry, all I do is walk around and cry
But right now I'm drowning, oh I'm drowning in the sea of love
But that's alright, I don't mind drowning for your love
That's alright baby, hear me when I say it's alright
You got the kind of love that make me feel alright
You got the kind of love baby that make me cry all night long
You got the kind of love baby make me do things I don't wanna do
And it's alright
It's early morning on I-19.
I ain't got much for company,
A pick-up truck, a brown Volvo,
And a couple of jokers on the radio.
I wish that it could stay like this,
But soon I'll have to put up with
The whole world and his Uncle Joe
Cluttering up my freedom road.
When I was a boy I'd fantasize
About the freedom road. I'd drive
A thousand miles before sundown,
Father a child in every town*.
But a hundred thousand miles have passed
Between me and iconoclastic images
Of the freedom road.
I want to shed this heavy load.
Well I've seen the power of the lightning storm,
I've seen the endless ears of corn,
I've seen the lakes at the break of day,
And that shit takes my breath away.
But if I were to even start
To tell them how it melts my heart,
Never more would my truck-stop friends
Look me in the eye again.
It's early morning on I-19,
A dreamer's waking from his dream,
A driver who has lost his way
Parks up his rig and walks away.

The final line certainly resonates with the ( slightly too ) long audaxes.
(But surely a poem, not a song? I think ... )
Actually, on reflection, I most prefer rolling roads.Quote from: GK ChestertonBefore the Roman came to Rye or out to Severn strode,
The rolling English drunkard made the rolling English road.
A reeling road, a rolling road, that rambles round the shire,
And after him the parson ran, the sexton and the squire;
A merry road, a mazy road, and such as we did tread
The night we went to Birmingham by way of Beachy Head.
I knew no harm of Bonaparte and plenty of the Squire,
And for to fight the Frenchman I did not much desire;
But I did bash their baggonets because they came arrayed
To straighten out the crooked road an English drunkard made,
Where you and I went down the lane with ale-mugs in our hands,
The night we went to Glastonbury by way of Goodwin Sands.
His sins they were forgiven him; or why do flowers run
Behind him; and the hedges all strengthening in the sun?
The wild thing went from left to right and knew not which was which,
But the wild rose was above him when they found him in the ditch.
God pardon us, nor harden us; we did not see so clear
The night we went to Bannockburn by way of Brighton Pier.
My friends, we will not go again or ape an ancient rage,
Or stretch the folly of our youth to be the shame of age,
But walk with clearer eyes and ears this path that wandereth,
And see undrugged in evening light the decent inn of death;
For there is good news yet to hear and fine things to be seen,
Before we go to Paradise by way of Kensal Green.

I've been too long in the wind
Too long in the rain
Taking any comfort that I can
Looking back and longing for
The freedom of my chains
And lying in your loving arms again
I been warped by the rain
Driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty, don't ya know
And I'm still, I'm still - willin'
I'm out on the road late at night
I see flapjack in every headlight
flapjack, blessed flapjack
I've been from Comrie to Combeinteignhead
Castleton to Cullercoats
Ridden every kind of frame that's ever been made
Ridden the back roads so I wouldn't get waylaid
And if you give me wheels, whites, and cake
And you show me an arrivee sign
I'll be willin' to be movin'
Someone must've mentioned Willin' before, surely? If this was not a Post of the Day, there is no justice in the world.
Rumour is, Lowell George was in Frank Zappa's band and showed the song to Zappa, at which point Frank chucked him out and told him he was far too good to play a bit-part in someone else's band.
