The activity that has caused the evacuation of 4,000 residents in the vicinity of Grindavik has taken a new twist this evening.

Grindavik is where we stayed when we went to Iceland a few years ago - not much going on there but it was a lot cheaper than Reykjavik. And it was a lovely hotel we stayed in.

On the first evening we arrived, we had supper of the most amazing lobster soup in a bar by the harbour. It was the only place open we could find, and the only thing they had on the menu, but we couldn’t have asked for better.

If you go to https://www.youtube.com/live/804nPrAUAxg?si=m_-ufiu6uAHTb1qz you get a live view, and if you run it back about 10h15 (as of time of posting) you can see the eruption begin.

I'm always slightly surprised that these events don't 'set the whole island off', but then IANAV...

Didn't stay there but visited in September, it's a very sleepy little hollow. Also had a nice visit to a harbourside cafe on an otherwise pretty grim day. Seems quite odd to think of it as erupting.

Whilst the rest of the family did the Blue lagoon bit, I went for a walk on the hills behind, with great views down over Grindavik, and a surprising remains of a second world war radar station on the hill with some pretty good information boards on it.

Probably the same cafe!*

We didn’t do much walking about while we were there - mainly because it was the middle of January and rarely getting much above -10 outside.

(*eta: Just looked it up - Bryggjan Grindavik. The reviews on Tripadvisor all mention the lobster soup. Tripadvisor says “open now”. Hmmm, I doubt it.)

I read the title and thought Bjork had gone apeshit at an airport again.

I thought she was oh, so quiet.

Formidable!
I gave Bjork my bottle of water (not an euphemism) when she asked for some during a recording of Def II when I was in the studio audience, back in ninety something.
ETA - The volcano stuff looks properly scary. Lobster soup sounds seriously appetising.

Def II, there's a blast from the past...
