I've got something similar in the garden, I think they were cupressus gold?. I'll take a look later because I'm sure there's a label on one. They've grown about a foot a year.

Not a leylandii.  It's a Thuja Occidentalis (redwood to you and me).
when you're dead you're done, so let the good times roll

Possibly Thuja Plicata, Western Red Cedar. They self-seed, but this seems to be planted. Difficult to tell at that size, you'd need the cones to sort them out. Occidentalis is more likely to be planted as a hedge.

The one I've got growing is a cupressus castelwellan. I've not got green fingers so go off what the gardeners on here say :D the leylandii I had chopped down had a smooth feel to the leaves apparently compared to others, tbh they looked the same to me!

Having to choose between thuja and cypress, it's hard to tell which one is which from a photo.

The thuja has a very strong and typical odor, while the cypress doesn't smell anything. Well, almost anything.

Been planted at appx 45 - 60 cm intervals on a border - behind a fence.

Not a leylandii.  It's a Thuja Occidentalis (redwood to you and me).

Growing characteristics seems to suggest up to 30 ft?

Certainly not a dwarf species, then. How fast growing?

I would have thought it's a leylandii, Thuja Occidentalis tend to have flatter green bits, can't really tell from the picture:)
