Likewise, I've often been tempted to buy the lot, just to enjoy the wonderful names. Tintin as well . Just no room to have them.

Ah! Sad - though I had no idea he was still alive.
I remember discovering Asterix via the collection of an older cousin. At that age, I just loved the drawings. There's so much life and character and energy in them. I found them totally mesmerising. Still do.
Appreciation of the brilliance of the writing (and the puns) came later.

I did O-level French at school, but it was only when we came here 10 years later that I learnt real French from colleagues, Astérix and Boris Vian. I stopped buying the albums when Goscinny died, though - although the artwork was still good, the sparkle was gone. Still, kudos to Uderzo for keeping the series alive.
