In a random act of Management that involved surprisingly little in the way of kicking off, barakta has received confirmation that her job is being regraded to reflect what she's actually been doing (I've read the new job description, it's uncanny).  She'll now be working four days a week (rather than five), with an n+1-worthy rise in take-home pay.

After almost the entire day fiddling around with code, I worked out that it required the placement of a single "." in some shell script to solve a rather bizarre malloc error introduced yesterday when I updated glibc trying to solve a possible mathematical error in another package entirely.

I'm vaguely unsure why this extra "." is needed, since the code has worked fine for almost a decade, but I'm just happy that I sorted things out before the next deluge of data downloading was due to commence at midnight.
Actually, it is rocket science.

If she was, they're not saying. They're just saying she's not coming back from her holiday.

All they have to do now is to remove that arse-screaming ego from the breakfast slot and I'll be listening again.

Alex Lester for the Dawn Patrol.

Johnnie Walker for Breakfast.

Richard Allanson to stand in as holiday cover.

I'll be happy.

I can't stand Radio 2...  unfortunately Mr R listens to it in the car and never changes the setting back to Radio 4.  >:(

You know the answer don't you?   Don't use the car.  Ride your bike instead.

Chances are it is health related though.

Mrs Ham has always been a R2 in the mornings person, and I could put up with Sarah Kennedy. I could even suffer Terry Wogan (just) but thankfully Mrs Ham shares my total antipathy for the ginger whinger.

BBC News - Tony Blair pelted with eggs at book signing in Dublin

Although this should also go in the Bad News thread because

Apparently he's withdrawn from further signings as he claims that protesters can launch eggs and shoes at just 45 minutes' notice.
