Finally got myself a proper profile!  I'll see you all at the compasses. Will be arriving separately to Tomsk though. Only been back on the open roads since Sunday (50km with Dunmow Velo) so having myself a nice short solo ride, attempting not to get too soaked!

Another first today! Tandem + viola + 2 * rucksacks. Aside from a flat tyre that needed pumping up twice it went well. Would standard 700cc inner tubes fit a 1970s tandem wheel? I think I probably need some bomb proof tyres as well...the current ones look 'original '

700 tubes would probably fit, you can but try. What is the tyre size as indicated by the markings on the tyre wall?

Glad the tandem commuting is going well.

27* 1.25? Yes, they will fit.

We are scheduled to go to the Norton tomorrow.

Looking at its website, it appears to have gone all poncey.  This is fine for most of us but we now have a northerner from Middlebrough in our midst and he is unlikely to be comfortable there.

What about a Tap Room (or the other one) visit followed by the Carpenters or somewhere near Maldon ?  Alternatively, we could move the Cats to this week to save us going East two weeks in a row.

Oh that's a bit shite. The Norton used to be a bit good. It was one of the first community pubs in our area. I had no idea it had changed.  We've had some good nights there albeit not for a while.

It's no place for savages like our Jiber. Certainly not until we at least have him housetrained.

26 x 1 and 3/8ths. Is that common? The front tyre had some helpful markings on. Now just need to fix the front breaks...

How about the Prince of Wales in Stow Maries, just a little further down the road with the potential added bonus of Hagg Hill??

Close enough to the most common size in the history of the bicycle :)

You can go + or - a fair bit on the width, so just google 26 x 1.5" tyres and you'll find millions to chose from..
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Or how about the Witham peloton (which I might join) goes via Hagg Hill but ends up nearer to Maldon.

I am hoping to make it out tomorrow. Must admit that Maldon would be my preference. Some mead at the Farmers Yard to kick my gout off again....

Anywhere is good for me, but I have noticed the Farmers Yard shuts at 21:00 :o
Might have to be a two stop evening?

Plus Farmers yard might be a bit busy due to the huge uptake of vouchers from the Chelmsford beer festival :)

There is another storm due tomorrow evening. Triangulate a point between Chelmsford, Mersea and Witham

PoW is in the zone, if that helps...  I'm up for an easy night as I'm on a rest week apparently   Hurdlemakers ticks the easy box I think but PoW ticks the "I've never been there" box

I won't be there tonight, although have my eye on Rose & Crown on 15th March.

Could somebody please raise the Holland trip and see if there is any further interest? At the moment we have myself, OD and Jibers. Oaky has previously expressed an interest. Anybody else? If not, I'd suggest I book individual cabins for 3. If anybody wants to join later, that would be fine, but the prices may rise in the meantime.

In summary, the plan is to cycle to Harwich on the evening of Friday 15th September, overnight ferry, cycle 200km in Holland on a nice scenic route, return overnight on the Saturday night. Cost is circa £182 including ferry, individual cabins and breakfast in both directions.

Afternoon of 15 to get there, it's a bit of a push to get there with just an evening ride and fit in a curry before boarding? ;)

ETA: here for curry, I was impressed with it last time... http://captainfryatt.co.uk it's 5mins from the boarding area
