There's space for 1 more on Les Gravelleurs d'ACME

What does one have to do to join Les Gravelleurs? Would I only be allowed in if I start saying "Gravel" rather than "Off road"?

I guess I might need to go tubeless on my Tripster as I don't fancy the chances of the current tyres much.

Anyway, if you continue with these rides, I'd quite like to come along...
Noted,  not sure when the next one will be or who is organising at the moment 'off road' is fine

Would be good to see you bobb.

It's only kiddy gravel in Essex, you would do fine on your Tripster or Surly, maybe with some slightly knarly tires, tubeless optional.

This is a concern. You have permission to shoot me if I ever use the term bikep*cking  :P

Any suggestion for tubeless tyres suitable for a mixture of road/gravel off-road?

Tubeless  :o  What's the matter with you?  You haven't received any recent blows to the head have you?  If so get yerself up to Broomfield A&E sharpish!

I'm very impressed with the IRC Bokens I've got on at the moment. Grippy on the "shitey traaks" and quickish on the road. Went on the Pacenti rim with a track pump and at 36mm they might even fit under your guards.

If you want a bang on the head I'm sure jiber can escort you through his favourite ford. If you do it right you might accomplish the double, a Strava KOM and a trip to A&E in a yellow minibus.

28mm tyres only just fit under my current guards. I could get new guards of course....

If anyone is disappointed to have missed out on the first of the ACME Winter Anvil Series calendar ride in November due to the field cap of 30 riders be uplifted in the knowledge that the Essex 3R's (and therefore A Little Essex R&R when ridden anticlockwise) route is now available as a perm.  Paperless GPS entry and validation supported.  If you ride it within the 2 weeks before or 1 week after the 7th November I'll credit your Winter Anvil Series record 🙂

This has some appeal.  I could be quite busy this winter with various projects around the house and I can see riding my bike and staying fit in general taking a hit.  Perhaps setting myself the challenge of riding all the ACME winter series routes over the course of the chilly months (C-19 restrictions permitting of course) is the incentive I need.  Personally I'm not bothered about points so am not constrained by dates.

Does anyone else fancy joining me (max group of 6 inc. me) and just treating these endeavours as nice bike rides?

Yes
I will have to ride it at least once myself as a route check to see if the roads are still there, was thinking about Sat 31st Oct for that purpose.

Can decide on a date closer the time.  Sunday 1st is possible, as are other weekends.

Just in case The Bard doesn’t oblige here is a summary of yesterday evening in The Sun, Feering with the EER...

Present: myself (OD), huggy, ted, ‘fandango, jem, bobb.

huggy moaned about the beer.

jem showed off her silky new cycling cap which was something to do with all her world records. I was unable to work out whether she or ‘fandango had matching underwear.

Talking about world records we decided that the only way bobb is going to get any world records is for him to transition into a woman.  Apparently these days you just need to fill in a form.

bobb is planning to convert a mahogany desk which once belonged to a supertanker captain into a guitar.

For reasons best known to himself ‘fandango turned up wearing a Star Trek costume.

I’m sure ted has had a haircut, he looked slightly smarter than usual.

Message ends.

I haven't read the entire thread.

I heard today that the Viper is now a private house. Is this true?  :'(

The bloke who owns it also owns The Cricketers, up the road from it - last I head he was planning to reopen as a pub, I think that was on their FB page about 2 weeks ago

"Back to it's former glory" what a treat.

Last time I went I was served a very off pint of beer by some kind of non speaking psychopath who looked like he'd rather punch my lights out than apologize and pour me another pint.

The decor and seating had the look and comfort of a below average shed.

I can't wait.

I’ve not been to The Viper often but I don’t remember it ever being particularly bad or particularly good. I tried their very hot chilli once which was an experience.

Back to it's former glory before that bloke took over and ruined it. Loads of locals withrew their patronage because of him and the photos the new owner posted of the state he let the place get into were quite an eye opener.

Anyway, I rode past it today and it looks no nearer to completion than it did 6 months ago. The roof over the left hand bar still isn't complete despite work starting on it at the beginning of the year.

I have no idea if it's still going to be reopened as a pub or not. I would assume there are rulez at the point of purchase on that sort of thing....

Edit: I'm up for the 1st if spaces still available.
