I have taken the ferry from Point Clear many years ago, having cycled there directly from St Osyth. Have done the route from St Osyth to Seawick and then along to Clacton, Frinton and Walton many times, I really like it. Also at the right time of year I have swum between Jaywick and Clacton. It's worth going all the way to the Naze tower if you have time

Every time I look at the tracking,  Pysclist seems to be stopped in a Piazza, or a ristorante

Pure coïncidence! Yesterday I stopped 3 times … after 61km, in the middle of Siena for my second breakfast, about 30km after that for a small roll I’d been carrying, then after another 25km for a couple of pizza slices. The distances look small, but with the rather rough off-road sections and the hills, my average speed for the day was down to something like 12.5 kph.

Keep at it, ultra endurance, lots of eating with a bit of riding between meals.

No proper wifi this evening, so can’t upload to Strava. Will hopefully be back with wifi tomorrow evening.

Should be able to upload via mobile, but it’s not happening. One to investigate after the race.

Approx 350km to go, including 2 mountains at 2000m high. Reports of snow, so could get interesting.

Looks like you’ll finish on Sat following your averages per day.  A good push today, a sleep, followed by a final flourish

Yes, Sat looks good. What an achievement.

As an aside, does anybody have any idea of the torque settings for a Driveline crank retaining bolt?

Ta,
Nick.

From memory, as tight as I can do from hand, I don't think I stood on it.  From google, I think 45Nm

If you get chance, worth getting some self extracting crank bolts. Makes it a lot easier to take the cranks off when needed without a puller.

45 seems like a lot!

I've just nipped them up by hand for now, need to see if i can find the manuafacturer specs for Driveline.

I agree, more looking seems 40Nm max, I just go hand tight and check again in another 100km

Looks like he’s stopped for night in Verona with 131km to go when he resumes. Perfect distance for a final day.

Yeah, that's a nice distance - seems almost inconsequential when you look at what Andrew has already covered, but of course, it isn't!

It’s not the distance, but the 2 mountains that lie in the way! I’m up early as it’s going to take a while.

What, even mightier than North Hill which you must have trained on? I’m sure Monte Sparavieri can’t possibly compare! As for Monte Tomba and Postemon.

Of course, the two mountains as well! Good luck today and I’ll be watching

50km to go. One mountain. Hoping to finish before dark, but it’s super slow going today. I seem to be to-ing and fro-ing with several riders today, all of whom I’ve seen in previous days. I was expecting the field to be more spread out than it is.

There are about 8 riders just up the mountain from you and  2 riders just behind. A total of about 20 riders in the final 50km.  Enjoy the closing stages of what must be one of those rides that’ll stay in your memories for a long time.
