I did look into the train situation and saw it was a bit… dire. Can you do a 2000km DIY? I mean it is only 500km longer than LEL  ;D…. Audax spirit  ;D

Once you get past a certain distance the standard becomes 200k/day.

2500km and over requires an average of 200km per day. We’ll need to add a 500km loop onto Deano4’s route  ;D

1900km+ is 240km per day.

I was going to look it up, hence the ‘certain distance’.

You sound like a bloke who has researched this.

Just doing a public service for Deano4!

I was also intrigued as I’d not equated the average speed to a daily distance before, and 200km is a nice distance for touring, allowing time for a proper sleep each night and some nice feeding stops.

Some of the rides I read about when I first joined AUK were epics using this formula.

I did 7 days of 200k in the Summer in fairly benign terrain but found it a bit stressful and didn’t stop as much as I should.  I should have pre-planned feed stops a bit better.

I think 200k per day is too much for touring. 60 to 80 miles is a better in my experience.

Here here! 200km is a good tour spoiled - nothing wrong with audaxing it (or similar) all over the place, but it becomes a different beast compared to taking time out for leisurely breakfasts, generous cafe/pub stops, exploring off the route, stopping at places of interest, taking photos etc.

It's a bit early but can I express an interest in an Easter Arrow next year ?    I have done enough this year for my AUK and ACP Brevet 5000s as long as I do an arrow and PBP.

Don't forget the upcoming PBP Pubinar (thread in 'Audax: PBP') at the Compasses. Saturday 22nd October. Meet 18:00 - 19:00 or thereabouts for food and drink, and we'll aim to start at 20:00. I'm guessing we'll be in the Green Room again?

Happy to turn up and pedal for an arrow, don't have the planning skills to arrange anything (including the return journey, my plan is to get back on the bike and ride home, it worked this year!).

Assuming the ankle is up to it at the time.

I may turn up for a beer on the 22nd Oct.

Haha, funnily enough you posted that on the same day I had looked up the dates for Easter next year!

I'm starting to sketch out next year as things are feeding in at the moment.   I don't think I've done an arrow since I was a last minute sub on Oaky's team 10+ years ago.

It's likely I'd ride back or maybe as far as Lincoln and arrange a lift.

Looks like we'll need an early start on the ACME Arrow Thread ...

Training in speed-eating at Wetherspoons starts in November.

I'd be up for The easter Arrow, especially so if it counts toward PBP.

For anyone mad enough to consider riding back from York after doing an Arrow - do bear in mind that the following day is Easter Sunday and almost everything is shut or only open for a few hours. From late Saturday to getting to destination it's best to plan for total self sufficiency.
