Ultegra freehub compatibility
« on: 17 May, 2020, 10:23:52 pm »
Got a pair of wheels with old Ultegra 9 speed hubs (FH6500). I've looked after the hubs so cone, cups, bearings good. Had them rebuilt last year so plenty of life in the wheels. Over winter freehub became noisy, flushed it through with oils and degreaser but still sounds rough so looked for a replacement freehub body. 6500 appears to be obsolete but a review on sJS cycles suggested a FH6700 freehub fits so bought and fitted. However the bearing cup seems to be set deeper in the free hub so when washers and locknut fitted it is not wide enough and the locknut does not protude from the free hub. My first thought was to increase spacing and bring OLN to 130mm not altering the non gear side, but looking at the wheel alignment it seems to have altered the alignment of rim (dishing appears out).

Any suggestions?

if you have made the spacing 130mm by adding spacers on the right there is no reason for the wheel dishing to have changed. Are you sure you have got the spacers back correctly on the LHS?
