NEW AAA 200 PERM - COTSWOLDS AND MENDIPS GRIMPEUR 200 (2.75AAA)
« on: 14 December, 2012, 03:10:00 pm »
Originally a main road route linking the Spa towns of Cheltenham, Bath and Wells, the Glos and Somerset 200 Perm has been re-configured into a quieter and more laney Grimpeur and stand-alone AAA route. The new C&MG200 takes in some big hills on to and out the Cotswolds and Mendips, such as Wick Lane (Pensford), Harptree Hill, Wells Road (A36 out of Wells), Bannerdown Road (Fosse Way out of Batheaston). Nor is there a shortage of pleasant towns and villages with their own charm, such as Keynsham, Castle Combe and Tetbury. Anyone entered for the G&S200, which remains as a Perm, can convert their entry to the CM&G200; just email for the new Routesheet.

The C&MG200 provides some hills without the exposure of a more mountainous AAA route and a rewarding 2.75AAA points for your efforts. This route keeps both RRTY and AAARTY going in one ride.

Rode the Glos & Somerset Perm a few years ago.
The A46 section from Cheltenham to Bath was hard going  :-\

Sounds great Steve, need a few more AAA events round this way. Can it be ridden from Keynsham? Would be handy for Bristol riders.

K is a Control going South; Bath the Control going North. Turn at Wells and Cheltenham. Email my normal line (not PM) for RS. Intend to develop Clockwise version in Spring and hopefully make it more 'interesting'.

We rode Steve's Glos & Somerset 200 perm last July using Keynsham as our start and finish control. So it may be OK for this new ride. But possibly not, as the ride details on the perms webpage show less than 2800 metres total climb (the minimum for a 200), which means the AAA points are awarded for a hilly stretch within the ride, not for the whole distance, as I understand it. In theory at least, this could invalidate certain start points.

Hi

Sound like I ride I may well be interested in come the better weather :), a friend is thinking of a 'hilly' hols
that the extra mileage may well be useful for training, and still a ride with climbing and AAA points.

Will give a real boost to my AAA riding in 2013.

I have been 'encouraging' Steve to offer an AAA that can start near Bristol, and this looks ideal.

Bairdy and I are riding it soon....  :demon: :smug: 8)

Maybe it will replace my standard 200 DIYxGPS, and maybe then I'll get some better climbing legs....   ;D  ;D O:-)
I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 25 .....plus shipping and handling.

In true Abraham-style, let's see who interested in a loop from the bristol/keynsham control and what dates are good for you?

I'll be riding it on 22nd with Mike Lane and Reg. T
Starting from Keynsham and we'll be meeting Steve Abraham in Tetbury around midday who'll ride with us for a while as part of
one of his 700's.

I'll keep an eye on this one - might join you all to ride but with an early start from Wells (seeing as I live there!) if you were to head north first starting in Keynsham. Failing that you can all get a cashpoint receipt at the Tesco around the corner and then I'll line up tea/coffee/cake for you all chez moi...

We'll be going Keynsham - Wells - Bath - Tetbury - Castle Combe - Cheltenham - Wotton - Keynsham.
Probably leave Keynsham about 6.30am.

So 06.30 start from Keynsham on Saturday it is?

Bairdy would you like to ride out there together as it sounds like we live close?

I live in Easton in case that's near anyone else.

Have fun everyone! I am still recovering from a fall on the weekend on some lethal slippery railway tracks, so don't reckon I will be on the bike for a while.

Hope the weather forecast improves for you.

Very sorry to hear about the spill Paul, not too bad I hope.

Thanks guys, yes mainly just bumps and bruises I hope! slightly concerned the hip/lower back pain seems to be taking a while to go. But if no improvement by the weekend will be up the doctors. Also found a new pain on my shin I was not aware of!

Was leading a group of 18 on a club run and luckily 2 of us were 20 yards ahead, we both slowed and aligned to roll over the tracks head on, I made it over 2 sets and went down like a sack of spuds, Mark B who was just behind also went down on the first set and broke his collar bone  :o  If the whole group had been tightly packed it would have been carnage!

I have heeded the warnings many times about railway tracks in the wet, always treat them with respect, slow down, ride over straight etc. Will never ride over a set again after that experience!
